Team Honda Racing Head to Round 1 of the Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship
Following on from their success at the World Superbike Event in which #27 Jamie Stauffer won the first round of the Phillip island Championship, Team Honda Racing is looking forward to taking to the track for the Australasian Superbike Championship this weekend.
The preliminary round of the series will be held at Wakefield Park and the team is eager to see how the three-race schedule of the weekend will unfold.
The rider line-up for Round 1 is #27 Jamie Stauffer and #17 Troy Herfoss (filling in for the injured #34 Josh Hook) under the Team Honda Racing banner, and #47 Wayne Maxwell onboard the Motul Honda. ASC Round 1 will see all 3 riders competing on the new Honda CBR1000RR SP. Josh Hook suffered a broken collarbone and wrist in a terrible crash at the World Superbike Event and is focused on healing in time for the second round of the ASC.
Herfoss, who is no stranger to Superbike racing, joined Stauffer and Maxwell at a recent test at Wakefield Park and is excited to be part of the team for Round 1, “I can’t wait to get out on track this weekend with Team Honda Racing after a really solid test on the CBR1000RR SP last Sunday. I’m really pleased that Paul has given me the opportunity to fill in for Josh while he recovers and I feel confident we can be strong this weekend.”
Also injured at the World Superbike Event and recovering from a dislocated shoulder, Maxwell is looking for maximum results this weekend. “My first event of the year went horribly wrong, but things can only improve so I’m focused on starting the Australasian Superbike Championship strongly and moving forward. It is going to be very interesting to see how it plays out with 3 ASC championship races over the weekend and after the test we did there I believe we have a solid plan. The Motul Honda CBR1000RR SP felt strong in testing and with a few tweaks to the set-up I feel confident of good results.”
Jamie Stauffer took the overall win at the Phillip Island Championship in February and is looking for an equally strong result at Round 1 of the Australasian Superbike Championship. “I’m looking forward to starting the series at Wakefield Park this weekend. The test has given us some very valuable information on the best approach for the event so our plan is solid, but there are 3 races on Sunday so anything can happen. I have every confidence in the CBR1000RR SP and can’t wait to get racing.”
