Only two months until the world’s premier motorcycle racing series, MotoGP™, returns to Circuit of The Americas (COTA) April 11-13, along with its support series Moto2™ and Moto3™. This year marks the debut of U.S. rider Josh Herrin in the Moto2 division, and the newcomer will be competing with a brand new Moto2 team, Caterham Moto Racing.
This week, America’s newest motorcycling race phenom shares his thoughts on the upcoming season.

THE ROAD TO QATAR…
COTA: You’ve completed two weeks of testing in Valencia and Jerez that included several challenges. What did you learn about the bike so far and what do you need to get out of the next series of tests March 11-13?
JOSH: As this bike is new to me, our main focus was to get the best base set up for the season. We were able to learn a lot about the Caterham Suter and my feeling on the bike from the changes we made. At the next test in Jerez, I hope to be able to improve my lap times and gain more confidence going into Round 1 at Qatar.

COTA: It’s a big year for Caterham with the transition into Moto2 racing. Tell us about the team’s chemistry and how you’re collectively preparing for your big debut in Qatar.
JOSH: Caterham’s transition from four wheels to two is definitely a big move, but it doesn’t show when they turn up to the track. They are very professional and great to work with. I know that while I am at home working very hard on my fitness, they are working just as hard to make the bike even better, and that makes me very confident.
COTA: When you think about the first race of the season, what keeps you up a night?
JOSH: I think I may have turned into an insomniac from the excitement of knowing that I am representing my country in the World Championship. I have been waiting for this moment since I was a little boy, and now that it’s finally here, it’s unbelievable!

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW…
COTA: What do you do to stay physically fit and race ready?
JOSH: Something very important in my training program is riding Supermoto at my personal track (Middle Georgia Kart Track) in Dublin, Ga. I think staying on a motorcycle as much as possible is crucial to staying at the top of my game. Of course, I also spend a lot of time on my specialized bicycles and go to the gym too.
COTA: What is your favorite memory on the back of a motorcycle?
JOSH: I would say my best memories on a motorcycle are when I am at home at my track riding with kids and teaching them the things that I have learned about racing motorcycles. To me, there is no better feeling than watching a kid learn how to drag a knee on a motorcycle.
COTA: Who is the famous person you’d most like to meet and why?
JOSH: If I could meet one famous person I would want to meet The Rock! I have been a huge fan since I was a kid and he motivates me to put in the hard work at home!
