Jerez hosts second official Moto2 test of 2014

The second official Moto2 test got underway today at the Circuit of Jerez.
With rain over night causing difficult conditions, the first of a three day test schedule saw a slow start to the morning sessions with only a handful of riders heading out on track.
Not deterred by the damp, Johann Zarco led the way as the first man out around the 2.7 mile circuit.
As the sun arrived and conditions improved the Frenchman continued to progress ending the morning sessions in P3, just 0.254 off leader Esteve Rabat.
Moto2 rookie Josh Herrin chose to wait out the damp and difficult conditions in order to focus his attentions on a dry set-up and achieving a time of 1:44.951 in the last of the afternoon’s sessions.
Johann Zarco: “This morning I felt it was important to ride in the wet. It is necessary to test in these conditions to be able to gain information on the suspension, let the team see how the Caterham Suter performs and try and find a base set-up.
“As the track began to dry we were able to put in slick tyres and made a good modification on the front fork. This was the best moment as my feeling on the bike was good. It was only sliding with the rear but I improved my entrance into the corner and was able to maintain speed, so I was happy.
“Tomorrow I hope we will have good conditions so that we can continue to progress with our settings and find the right balance.”
Josh Herrin: “After lunch the track conditions improved and we were able to work on getting a good set up for the rest of the test.
“As Jerez is one of the GP tracks that I have experience of, I would like to concentrate on improving my lap times here and getting closer to the front.”
