A deal is currently in the works for Roger Hayden to join Martin Cardenas and Chris Clark in a three-rider AMA Pro Superbike team fielded by Yoshimura Suzuki. Yoshimura Suzuki has not announced that Cardenas and Clark are returning to the team, but it’s believed that the team will keep both riders in place for the 2014 season. Hayden, meanwhile, knows he will not be returning to the Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki team (as that operation has shut down to explore the possibility of moving to International competition) and is looking for a new home. Hayden, who finished fourth in the 2013 AMA Pro Superbike Championship with five second-place finishes, tested a Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 alongside Cardenas and Clark at Chuckwalla Valley Raceway in November, but the deal between the 30-year-old Kentucky rider and the California-based team remains a work in progress. “We have always wanted and we still want to put a three-rider team back out in the Superbike class,” Yoshimura Suzuki Team Manager Peter Doyle told Roadracingworld.com Wednesday. “It obviously wasn’t possible in 2010 and 2011. With the way things were going it just wasn’t on the table. Then in 2012 and 2013, while the chances were remote, there was a possibility. We thought about it. We planned around it. We discussed it. But we were never able to make it happen. There’s some possibilities now that the company is working on that may allow us to do that again. We’re working hard on it.” “I definitely tested the bike about a month ago, and things went really good,” Hayden told Roadracingworld.com. “I knew at the time that they would have to get a sponsor and all that, try to get some more money to run me. As far as that goes, to be honest, I haven’t heard much since the test except that they’re working on sponsors. I’m not sure how that’s going. “My goal is definitely to stay in Superbike. That would be awesome. I don’t want to say too much yet, but some interesting things came up at the end of last week. It’s a little different direction. But I’ve got some things going now, so I feel a little bit better even though it is kind of late, almost Christmas and I don’t have a ride yet. I want to ride with Yosh on a Superbike, but if it doesn’t work out we’ll look into what came up at the end of last week.”
