Alexander and Johnston team up with PTR for last two rounds RECENTLY crowned AMA East Pro Supersport Road Racing Champion Corey Alexander and Britain’s Lee Johnston will step on to the big stage with PTR Honda for the last two rounds of the 2013 World Supersport Championship, starting at Magny Cours in France on October 6th. Alexander, 19, from New York, said: “I’m really excited for the opportunity to join the PTR Honda team, but even more importantly to make my debut on the world level. It’s truly a dream come true to be able to even ride in Europe, but even more so to represent America in the WSS championship alongside some of the best racers on the planet. “After wrapping up my first AMA championship I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate! I have to give a huge thanks to my sponsors for making it possible: MJRS Freeman Racing, Hudson Valley Motorcycles, Arai Helmets, Spidi Leathers, XPD Boots, Celtic Racing, Sportbikes Inc.magazine, Katra Racing and AMMO NYC. Thanks to PTR Honda for inviting me to be a part of their team.” Johnston, 24, from Kingston upon Hull, an experienced Superstock 1000cc racer and former British Superstock 600 Champion, is well known for his road racing results. He said: “It’s been a few years since I’ve ridden a Supersport bike on a closed circuit, I am looking forward to getting back on one. I do have 600cc experience on the roads recently. These are not circuits I am familiar with but I will do my best. Thank you to my sponsor East Coast Racing and PTR for making this happen, it’s going to be good.” Britain’s Danny Webb is looking forward to Magny Cours after a strong 18th at the last round in Turkey, just 33-seconds down on the winner at the end of the race in only his second outing on a 600cc race bike. He will be sporting new sponsorship from the Circuit of Wales. Nacho Calero had one of his best races of the year at Turkey and is finishing the year at speed. Luca Marconi is working hard to get back to the top 10 form he showed earlier in the season. He has never visited the circuit before but is positive before the penultimate round of the series at Magny Cours in France on Sunday, October 6th. Simon Buckmaster, PTR Honda Team Manager, said: “It is an exciting time for PTR Honda with Corey Alexander joining Danny Webb, Luca Marconi, Nacho Calero and Lee Johnston. These are all young riders with potential and ambitions. “Corey obviously has talent and seeing how that translates to the World Championship will be fascinating. Danny is in the same boat; he is finding his feet in the series and wants to score points as soon as possible. “Nacho made an improvement in Istanbul and he needs to carry that momentum forward for the last two rounds to set him up well for 2014. Luca is working to regain his top 10 form from earlier in the season but will also have to learn Magny Cours as he has never raced at the circuit before. We will be giving him our full support to score more points. “It is great that Lee will be joining us for the last two rounds. He is a talented and driven young man and this will be a big step up in competition for him. We will guide and help him so he can get the best results possible and we are excited to have him as part of the team.”
