Scott Ryan, 43 More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Faster By The Dozen As Daytona SportBike Champ Beaubier Notches His 12th DSB Victory Of The Season For Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Monterey, CA – September 29, 2013 – Finishing his Championship season in winning fashion, Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha rider Cameron Beaubier won his 12th AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike race this year, with a victory in Sunday’s DSB race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. It was also his 10th win in a row in 2013, completing a season of utter domination for the 20-year-old sensation, in a racing class known for its ultra-competitiveness. Garrett Gerloff, rider of the #8 Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6, raced in tandem with his teammate Cameron for part of the race, until the 2013 DSB Champ started another one of his signature charges to the front. Garrett stayed in the lead group and almost caught the third-place finisher at the checkers, but he ultimately had to settle for fourth. Garrett completed his first full season of DSB competition on the Championship podium, with an excellent third place in the points. After celebrating his win and “dominant dozen” in winner’s circle, Cameron said, “I had a pretty big crash in final qualifying yesterday, and I banged up my knee and ankle a little bit. So, I felt pretty stiff this morning in the warmup. In the race, I decided to take it a little bit easy in the beginning. My knee was hurting pretty good but, as the race went on, it loosened up some, and I was able to start putting down some fast laps. My team worked hard last night to get my bike ready for today’s race, so I have to thank them for today, and really, for the whole season. More, from a press release issued by GEICO Honda Road Racing: Westby rallies from early mistake to end season with seventh-place finish MONTEREY, Calif. (Sept. 29) – An early-race misfire ruined what was a promising start to the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Series finale for GoPro Daytona SportBike racer Dane Westby and the GEICO Motorcycle Honda team Sunday at Laguna Seca. Westby made a mistake right off the starting line, which ultimately buried him in the pack. He still charged through the field but crossed the finish line in seventh place. “The start was my whole race,” Westby said. “I missed the shift from first to second; that was all she wrote. From there it was just trying to do damage control and work my way up through the field.” Westby went into the race brimming with confidence. Qualifying and warm-ups went well and hopes were high for a podium finish to end the season. But after the bad start, he found himself trapped as far back as 10th place. From there, Westby did his best to chip his way through the pack. “We had the pace to keep up with the top guys,” Westby said. “I thought I’d be able to recover quickly, but I got caught behind some other guys in the beginning. I kept going back and forth with those guys and wasting time as the leaders pulled away. “I was really abusing the tire trying to get up through the pack. I wasn’t able to roll the corner the way I wanted to. Once I got though that traffic, the top guys were long gone. Westby ends the season in sixth place in the Daytona SportBike standings despite missing the season opening race due to injury. His best finish of the year was a fourth he earned at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama. “We had our highs and lows this year for sure,” Westby said. “We made a lot of progress getting our GEICO Motorcycle Honda dialed in. The season ended too soon for us. I wish we would have been able to make it on the podium this season. “I think this result will give us all a lot of motivation to put in extra work during the off-season and come back stronger than ever when we get to Daytona next year.” More, from a press release issued by Team Hammer PR: TEAM HAMMER WRAPS UP 2013 AMA PRO SEASON AT LAGUNA SECA Team Hammer concluded the 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season today at Laguna Seca. Much like the season as a whole, the team showed determination and impressive speed on Sunday, even though luck wasn’t always working in their favor. GEICO Road Racing Honda’s Dane Westby was unable to fully capitalize on his fourth-place grid position in Sunday’s 20-lap Daytona SportBike contest. The Oklahoman missed the shift from first to second at the start and plummeted to the bottom of the top 10 as the race got underway. Westby then fought his way forward aboard his CBR600RR, finally joining a tight pack of contenders contesting fifth. He eventually came home in seventh position despite earlier showing the pace to contend for a podium position. The result did see Westby to move up from seventh to sixth in the final Daytona SportBike points standings. M4 Hotbodies Racing’s Benny Solis fought his way forward during the race. Starting from 16th, the Californian slashed his way up to 13th on the opening lap and improved to 12th at the checkered flag. Solis ended the 2013 Daytona SportBike season ranked 10th in points. MPH Racing’s Melissa Paris closed out her season with a 24th-place result in the 35-starter field aboard her Team Hammer Contract Services-prepared Honda CBR600RR. Paris was 17th in the final DSB standings. Meanwhile, M4 Broaster Chicken Racing’s Chris Ulrich got off to a terrific start in the AMA Superbike race. Despite still feeling the effects of his big Friday crash, Ulrich took advantage of a strong race pace on his CBR1000RR to tag along early with a pack of riders who ultimately fought for fourth position. Unfortunately, Ulrich’s race ended on lap four while running inside the top 10. He finished 14th in the 2013 AMA Superbike Championship order. Ulrich said, “I was beat up going in and I had a poor warm-up but I rallied for the race. I was right there with that group fighting for a top five. I was just trying to hang on and I put the shifter in the ground through Turn Six and knocked the pin off. That was the end of my race. “It’s frustrating. It turns out that we didn’t quite have the qualifying pace but we did have a solid race pace. You watch a lot of those guys’ pace over the race distance and I was competitive.
