AMA Pro racer Jake Gagne, age 20, underwent successful surgery Tuesday evening, September 17 in Morgan Hill, California, to repair damage sustained to his right shoulder in a crash September 15 at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP).

Red Bull/RoadRace Factory rider Gagne suffered a distal fracture of his right clavicle (a.k.a. collarbone) and an AC separation of his right shoulder when he crashed during GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Race Two at NJMP.

Gagne walked away from the incident but later went to a hospital near the racetrack to have his shoulder evaluated. After the fractured was discovered, arrangements were made for Gagne to fly to northern California Monday, September 16. Then on Tuesday, the San Diego, California resident underwent a 47-minute surgical procedure at the hands of Dr. Maury K. Harwood at the South Valley Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Center.

Dr. Harwood performed surgery to relieve compartment syndrome symptoms on Gagne’s right arm in 2012.

“He’s in some pretty good pain today. He said it hurt more now than it did before,” Red Bull/RoadRace Factory Team Owner Danny Walker told Roadracingworld.com Wednesday. “But they said it is all good, and as long as he can put up with the pain he should be able to ride at Laguna. That’s the plan. He’s pretty tough. I’m pretty sure he’s gonna want to ride.”

Gagne needs to finish eighth or better (if Garrett Gerloff wins and gets both available bonus points) in the final Daytona SportBike race September 29 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to secure the runner-up spot in the 2013 Championship.
