SILVERSTONE was a very disappointing for us all in the PTR team. In the past it has always been a very successful round for us with Eugene Laverty winning a great race with Kenan Sofuoglu in 2010 and of course the 1-2 for Jules Cluzel and Sam Lowes last year. Sheridan as we all know had missed Russia in an effort to be fully fit for Silverstone. Unfortunately it soon became apparent that the shoulder injury was not fully repaired. He qualified 4th on Friday and although we were all optimistic it was really only one good lap with no good long runs in either session. He did a long run in free practice two but this was not on a great race pace. Changes to improve ground clearance for Sheridan were really outside our operating window and although Sheridan said it was better there were no real run of good laps and he dropped from 4th to 15th. He then crashed after changing lines into turn eight and hitting bumps. After consideration and looking at data despite what Sheridan felt, the times were just not there. We went back to the previous set up and in warm up he was 6th fastest but again only one lap, not a good run. In the race Sheridan disabled the electronics instead of enabling launch control. There is a light on the dash that tells you that you have done that but he failed to notice it and unfortunately rode the race with no electronics, which affected the result badly. After the tragic accident to Andrea Antonelli in Russia, Go Elven Kawasaki are looking for a rider and have offered him the ride. I have to say from our side I would never try and poach another team’s rider but I guess we are all different and everyone has their choice. Sheridan wants a new opportunity and hopes his fortunes will change in a new environment. Once a rider thinks like this he will not perform under his current situation. With this in mind we have released him from his contract with us. I and all the team wish him all the best and despite injury from round 3 meaning he could not perform for us to his full ability, we did see flashes of what he could be capable of. I hope for him he can regain full fitness. We are taking this opportunity to offer the young British rider Danny Web a chance in WSS and it will be good to build for the future with another young British rider and try and move his career forward as we achieved with Eugene Laverty and Sam Lowes. Luca looked good coming back from injury until he crashed following Sofuoglu and although he had good pace in the race his arm injury started to hamper him and he could not achieve the result he wanted and deserved. I am sure he will be fully recovered for Nurburgring and get back in the points in a strong way. David Linortner, Nacho Perez and Matt Davies had disappointing rides but continue to learn in what is now a field of great depth. It is always hard to win but this year the depth of field means if you are slightly off your best a possible top 10 can turn into a non points finish. David goes to one of his best track next and let’s hope this gives him the boost he needs to have a strong last four rounds. Nacho is starting to learn not to rush into turns as much and we will be working with him as always to concentrate on this to improve his performance. Matt was happy to finish at Silverstone but his lap times were way below his practice performance. He is very young and I am sure will with time unlock the key to let his natural talent come through. A last comment on Silverstone, after Sam Lowes finished second. He still has a substantial championship lead of 29 points and is looking very good. Let’s all hope he can win and be another British World Champion. We would like to see him follow in the steps of Cal Crutchlow and Eugene Laverty with a competitive ride in 2014 and taking another step in his career. I am at the Ulster Grand Prix with Michael Dunlop as I write this and weather permitting tomorrow he will challenge for the win in both the Supersport races to continue the fantastic season he is having in the major road races.
