Ortega, 16 More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Perfection For Cameron As Yamaha Extended Service/Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha Rider Completes His 2nd Perfect Weekend In A Row With A Race 2 Win At Mid-Ohio Lexington, OH – July 14, 2013 – Current AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship leader and 2013 Daytona 200 winner Cameron Beaubier won today’s DSB Race 2 and recorded his second perfect-points weekend in a row this season. Cameron–who rides the #6 Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha YZF-R6–earned the pole at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, won both of this weekend’s races, and led the most laps in both races. Today’s win was Cameron’s sixth victory out of seven races so far this season, and the northern Californian now leads the DSB Championship by 45 points. In Race 2, Cameron got off to a start that was almost a carbon copy of yesterday’s Race 1 start. He got a good jump off the line but was shuffled back a little bit going into the first turn. Not to be deterred, Cameron quickly went to work, made some deft passes on his competitors, and within five laps, put his R6 into the lead where he would stay throughout the remainder of the race. “I was a little timid in the first couple of laps,” Cameron said after the win, “but my Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team gave me a great bike, and I was able to go to work reeling in the leaders in those first couple of laps. I made a few passes, got to the front, and just concentrated on running clean, fast laps. I’m looking forward to heading back to California and racing at Laguna Seca, which is close to home for me.” Garrett Gerloff, who is Cameron’s teammate and rider of the #8 Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha R6, raced in the lead pack, and also in tandem with Cameron during the first few laps. The Texas rider was among a group of five riders who made a getaway and separated themselves from the rest of the field. Garrett crossed the finish line in fifth place for his sixth top-five finish out of seven races so far. Garrett is solidly in fourth place in the season points standings. Garrett said, “I’m happy to be racing in the lead pack, but I’d like to be even closer to the front. My team and I are working hard to make that happen. I’m hungry for a podium finish like I got at Daytona, and we’ve got another race in less than a week, so I’m excited about that. Hats off to my teammate Cameron on another win.” The Y.E.S./Monster Energy/Graves/Yamaha team will travel west to Monterey, CA, for next weekend’s Round 5 of the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship, which takes place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. More, from a press release issued by GEICO Motorcycle Road Racing: Westby battles odd circumstances, finishes seventh at Mid-Ohio LEXINGTON, Ohio (July 14) – After enduring a nearly hour-long delay in Sunday’s GoPro Daytona SportBike race while officials cleaned up Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, Dane Westby guided his GEICO Motorcycle Honda to a seventh-place finish at the Buckeye SuperBike Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire, part of the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Series. “This was the weirdest race we’ve had this season,” Westby said. “I had the most contact in this race than I’ve had in a long time.” As part of the pre-race festivities, fans run parade laps on their street bikes around the track. One fan’s bike lost its engine and sprayed fluid all over one of the corners of the track, which required extensive cleanup. Westby, like the rest of the riders on the grid, had to wait an extended time in the heat under the shade of an umbrella waiting for the OK to start racing. “That was a little bit beneficial for me actually,” Westby said. “I think some guys let it get to them and bubble up in their heads. I felt like I was feasting on their insecurities.” Once the riders did get a chance to work their way through the impacted section, Westby had to change his race line through that section. “I didn’t go through the part that had the oil dry on it,” Westby said. “During the warm-up l tried to push it through there to see. I wanted to be the guy who went through there when everyone else was scared. It didn’t work out because I almost crashed. “During the race I cut my line to the inside a little. That corner and the next corner had the oil dry on it, too. That section was weird but the rest of the track was fine.” Off the start, Westby made brief contact with another rider, which killed his momentum and his chances of keeping up with the lead group of bikes. “I got an OK start but I got together with Jake Lewis in the keyhole,” Westby said. “That blew it for me and the front pack got away. I got together with Bobby Fong a little later in the race. “I know I can hang with that top group, and it’s frustrating we’re not getting any luck.” The next stop for Westby and the GEICO Motorcycle Honda team is the July 19-21 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif.
