Start Of AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Race Two At Mid-Ohio Delayed Due To Fluid Spill, Track Clean-Up

The start of AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Race Two has been delayed due to an extended period to clean fluid from the racing surface in several of Mid-Ohio’s turns. The fluid came from a motorcycle that was crashed during the fan parade laps. After a sighting lap, another clean-up session and a warm-up lap, AMA Pro Daytona SportBike riders alerted officials that the track was not suitable for racing. AMA Pro Racing Director of Road Racing David McGrath then called an impromptu rider’s meeting on the grid. During that meeting, McGrath explained that crews had cleaned the track as good as possible and that the race’s television window was looming and that the best way to get the track better was for motorcycles to ride on it. McGrath then called for a 10-minute practice session, followed by a short break during which tires cannot be changed, and then the start of the race, which has been shortened from 21 to 15 laps. AMA Pro National Guard Superbike Race Two will start at its scheduled start time of 3:00 p.m. local time. The AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson race has been moved to the end of the day, after the National Guard Superbike race.
