For many years, the Sachsenring GP took place on city streets, but after the umpteenth incident occurred in 1990, the decision to abandon the urban layout became a priority. A new project was begun to construct a new track, surrounded by a permanent infrastructure, and the current modern facility was completed after a few years. The circuit, inaugurated in March of 1996 and subsequently modified in 2001, now measures 3.671 km (2.280 mi). It’s one of the shortest tracks on the MotoGP calendar, where it has again occupied a spot since 1998. It features a counter-clockwise layout, with ten left turns and four rights, and its only major straightaway is approximately 800 m in length (half a mile). Following last week’s test at Misano, Andrea is now preparing to face the German GP with the new ‘lab’ bike. The data he collected on that occasion will be a good starting point for the important work to take place in the Energy T.I. Pramac Racing Team garage starting from the first practice sessions scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, 12 July. Andrea Iannone – Energy T.I. Pramac Racing Team “I’m very positive for this weekend because the test we had at Misano went pretty well. I’m happy because I had the chance to try the new bike, which I’ll use for the rest of the season. I had a positive feeling, which I hope to be able to take advantage of immediately in order to improve my pace and be closer to Nicky and Dovi. With the team, we’ll work even harder to understand where and how to gain valuable time.” More, from another press release issued by Pramac Racing: For many years, the Sachsenring GP took place on city streets, but after the umpteenth incident occurred in 1990, the decision to abandon the urban layout became a priority. Michele Pirro will be back in the Ignite Pramac Racing Team pits as a substitute rider for American Ben Spies, having performed in his normal test-rider role with the Ducati Test Team during the recent test at the Misano circuit. Michele Pirro – Ignite Pramac Racing Team “We’re ready for another Grand Prix, and I hope to find the same feeling with my bike that I had during the test at Misano, where I felt better than I did at Barcelona and Assen. I felt really good, and I hope that the temperature will be higher here than it was at the race in Holland, and that we can get some good results. I’ll use the same bike that I’ve ridden until now, the ‘lab’, and we’ll continue our work. After this race I’ll get back to testing full-time until Misano, where I’ll be on the grid as a wildcard rider with the Ducati Test Team.”
