Suzuki GRANDys duo rider Marko Jerman claimed victory in the Superbike class at the fourth round of the Alpe Adria Superbike Championship at Most in the Czech Republic on Sunday. Jerman was handed the victory after Jan Halbich (Kawasaki) was given a 20-second penalty by Race Direction and was dropped to fourth. But Technical penalties also affected Jerman in the Superstock 1000 class and also his Supersport 600-class team mate Daniel Bukowski. After winning the Superstock 1000 race, Jerman was given a 20-second penalty for allegedly cutting the chicane on the final lap; a decision that dropped the Slovakian to fourth in the race. Bukowski, however, was disqualified from the Supersport 600 race after taking the victory, citing a technical infringement to Alpe Adria Championship rules for using his spare GSX-R600, which were in-line with FIM specification. Said Suzuki GRANDys duo Team Manager Jacek Grandys: “That was a crazy weekend for our team. We are very disappointed about the outcome of Daniel’s race as he would have become the leader of the championship. Unfortunately, we made a mistake by letting Daniel use a spare motorbike prepared in accordance with the FIM specification which slightly differs from that set by the rules of Alpe Adria. However, I hope that Daniel will be able to make up for this at the next round in Poznan in Poland at the end of the month and will continue to be a serious contender for the title. Leon puts MV Agusta on the Podium for the first time at a Canadian National. Montreal, Quebec native, Michael Leon, rode the Royal Distributing F3 675 triple to a Third place finish in the Hindle Exhaust Pro Sportbike class at the CSBK Rd2 event at Autodrome St-Eustache, his home track. The result marks the first visit to the podium for MV Agusta in a Canadian National competition. The race was won by Jodi Christie riding a Honda CBR600RR with Triumph mounted John Ross MacRae finishing in second spot. The team had qualified on the front row, in fourth place, with a lap time of 47.2 seconds, the fastest that Michael had ever ridden at St-Eustache. Long time tuner, Carlos Carrascosa, also a local Montreal resident, resumed his trackside duties as crew chief. The crew received additional suspension support at the track from John Ilkiw and Nicolas Rousseau from Quebec based Elka Suspension. Sponsor, John Sharrard of Accelerated Technologies, also gave input regarding some of the suspension choices, despite his very busy schedule as crew chief for the factory Honda team. The group worked hard leading up to the race to continually improve grip and make the F3 easier to ride as traction decreased due to tire wear. Michael Leon, Royal Distributing Team Rider: “I am thrilled to put the F3 on the Podium. It is such a great machine; I love it and I’m starting to feel like it was built just for me! Once I moved into 3rd spot I was monitoring the gap back to Frank with my pitboard. Up until about 3 laps to go it was 1 second. Suddenly it dropped to zero and I knew he was right there. I turned my fastest lap on the last one, a 46.8 sec, trying not to lose out on the podium. I was able to stick with JR throughout the race, but decided to try a move only if he made a big error. Finishing in the top three was so important to me; I didn’t want to risk it. It was awesome to have friends and family present to help celebrate. Now that the first podium is out of the way, I can’t wait for the next race!” Next, the team travels to Shubenacie, Nova Scotia for CSBK Rd3, a track that has been kind to Michael. Joe Francis, the 15-year-old from Backford near Chester, produced a superb ride in the Monster Energy Motostar to emulate his victory at Oulton Park earlier in the season. He was backed up by Team WD-40 team-mates Tommy Aquino and Jon Railton, who both made good progress from their starting grid positions to finish in the points in the Pirelli National Superstock 1000. Joe’s victory in a thrilling race strengthened his position at the top of the Moto 3 championship, ensuring a morale-boosting advantage to take into the second half of the season. Starting third on the grid, the talented teenager quickly seized the initiative and had burst past his rivals and into top spot by the second lap. A breakaway group of four were in a fantastic tussle throughout, with Joe always at the forefront as the lead exchanged hands at almost every corner during 12 laps of exciting action. Jordan Weaving took the lead with two laps remaining, but intense pressure from Joe forced an error and allowed the Team WD-40 teenager to cross the line for another crucial victory. “It was a brilliant weekend and I’m really pleased to get my second win of the season,” said Joe, who received the acclaim of a large crowd when he boarded the top of the podium. “I got into a great rhythm at the start of the race and when I lost the lead I just tried to get my head down and dig deep. It was one of the hottest days I’ve raced on but I’m happy with the win.” Joe’s victory came after Team WD-40 implemented significant set-up change on Saturday night, major alterations to the suspension and engine were a calculated risk but the improvements were immediate as Joe posted a faster time in the Sunday morning warm-up than in qualifying on Saturday. Tommy’s pace was strong throughout and he said: “It was a good race. I was only five seconds off the lead at the end which is as close as we have been all season so that’s a real positive. We are now looking to try and get into that top five for future races which we think is achievable.” Jon Railton, from Grafham also landed a point to cap a fine day for Team WD-40 with a 15th place finish, after starting the race in 23rd. “It was good to move up the field and get into the points because that’s what we are aiming for from every race,” said Jon, who was racing at the track nearest to his Huntingdonshire home. “I still think there is more to come and I will be working hard in testing at Brands Hatch next week.” Delighted team boss Brent Gladwin said: “It’s been a long weekend because we have done a lot of work with the set-ups of all the bikes so it’s pleasing to get some strong results. After four podium finishes – all 2nd’s – during the weekend, Imrie pulled off a win in the final race of the weekend, the Heavyweight GP. “We learned a lot this weekend, my Honda CBR600RR was working great” Imrie said. Then he talked about the win. “I had a great start and was right behind the leader in the 2nd corner. Tried passing going into 3 but got the door closed. A slight mistake by the leader in turn 4 gave me the opening I needed to take the lead. I made the pass going into turn 5. Once I had clear track I put my head down and tried to check out. I set my best lap of the weekend on the last lap of the last race, doing a 1:39.662.” Although Imrie took the final win, he was in the thick of the hunt for most of the weekend, which got off to a rough start with a minor crash in the first race while going for the lead in the rain. “I turned in a little early trying to set up the pass for the next corner and I just barely touched the painted line,” Imrie said. The rest of the weekend went pretty smooth despite losing one second place to a ruling on his non OEM rotors.
