ONE POINT OF SEPARATION AS SUPERSPORT CONTENDERS GET SET FOR SNETTERTON The Motorpoint British Supersport Championship is back on track this weekend (5/6/7 July) at Snetterton for the fifth round of the season as a single point separates standings leader Stuart Easton from the chasing Alastair Seeley. Ben Wilson was the double victor at Knockhill and the Lincolnshire rider has closed the gap now in the standings to 32 points in third place as he bids to close down the leading pair of Easton and Seeley who have shared the wins at the opening three rounds. Martrain Yamaha’s Easton arrives at Snetterton knowing that his Gearlink Kawasaki rivals tested at the Norfolk circuit during the official test last week, so knows that he will have to come out fighting this weekend. Easton said: “It feels good to be going back to Snetterton. We didn’t do the test but we have some good data that the team had from last season. I have actually only raced there once before on the 300 layout so I haven’t actually done that many miles there but we will take it as it comes, get up to speed and then hit the ground running on Saturday. I am feeling confident; Knockhill was a bit frustrating as we had the pace but the crash in qualifying left us with a lot of work to do. Under the circumstances Knockhill wasn’t a bad weekend with two podiums, but hopefully we can go better this weekend.” Seeley said: “I am feeling good as we go to Snetterton after the test there last week so we have some good, valuable data to start the weekend with. Ben (Wilson) was quite dominant at Knockhill so we have to find a reply to that in the races at Snetterton. In Supersport I have had some good races at the circuit though so hopefully we can have a repeat performance in Gearlink Kawasaki colours!” Defending champions Smiths Racing Triumph will be hoping for a change in fortunes this weekend after Glen Richards was injured at Knockhill; the Australian is aiming for a return at Snetterton as he recovers from a shoulder injury. His team-mate Billy McConnell has been a regular podium contender but so far the win has eluded him, so he will be hunting for the top spot this weekend. Graeme Gowland, Glenn Irwin and Jason O’Halloran arrive ready to try and close the advantage whilst Oxford TAG Triumph’s Richard Cooper will be aiming for the top ten and former Dutch Supersport champion Stuart Voskamp makes his debut. Motorpoint British Supersport Championship standings: 1. Stuart Easton (Martrain Yamaha) 156 2. Alastair Seeley (Gearlink Kawasaki) 155 3. Ben Wilson (Gearlink Kawasaki) 124 4. Billy McConnell (Smiths Racing Triumph) 123 5. Graeme Gowland (Seton Tuning Yamaha) 86 For more information please visit www.britishsuperbike.com
