Gregory Leblanc, Loris Baz and Jérémy Guarnoni were the fastest trio with an average best lap time of 1’39.744. The best time of the session was signed by the Kawasaki team’s new linchpin, Gregory Leblanc. A brilliant 1’39.792 by Julien Da Costa, the Suzuki Endurance Racing Team’s fastest rider this afternoon, was not enough to wrest the provisional pole spot from the Kawasaki clan. The BMW Motorrad France Team Thevent confirmed its good form and the steep learning curve of new recruit Karl Muggeridge in the company of Sébastien Gimbert and Sylvain Barrier. As in the free practice, the official BMW nosed ahead of the Yamaha France GMT 94 Michelin Yamalube ridden by David Checa, Kenny Foray and Matthieu Lagrive. Last minute entry for this 77th Bol d’Or Honda National Motos, racing in memory of team boss Pipo Baldi, who died this winter, caused a stir by taking fifth position with crew Gregory Junod, Thomas Metro and Olivier Four. Top Superstock Junior Team Suzuki LMS came back to take a brilliant sixth place on the provisional grid, ahead of the formidable Monster Energy Yamaha YART, while Yamaha DG Sport Herock fought its way into eighth ahead of team Honda TT Legends. For some of the teams at this 77th Bol d’Or, these qualifiers were a bad start to the weekend. Caught out by a braking problem, Loic Bardet on board the Yamaha Viltaïs Expériences went into Stéphane Molinier on the Kawasaki of Team 18 Sapeurs Pompiers. Bardet has a foot injury and Molinier an injured hand, but both should be able to race again tomorrow. Mathieu Charpin, leading rider of RAC 41 Yam’Avenue Ipone, also crashed and injured his knee. The second qualifying practice session will start tomorrow morning at 11h00 and will fix the starting grid spots for the 51 teams in the race.
