The Spanish MotoGP™ contingent descended on the Jerez Circuit this Friday to kick-off the 2013 season with Mediaset Españas’ TV channel Tele5. Yamaha Factory Racing’s reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo and Repsol Honda Team duo Dani Pedrosa and Marc Márquez were joined by almost the entire Spanish MotoGP™, Moto2™ and Moto3™ grid at a pre-test press conference. Not only was it to mark the final pre-season test in Jerez before the season opener in Qatar, but also to mark the second year of Tele5 coverage and introduce its latest presenters. Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta was also present to praise the coverage of the network last year, and give a brief overview of his expectations for 2013. On Moto3 he commented that it had had an “extraordinary” first year, and that he believes it will only continue, whilst commenting that Moto2 had now firmly established itself as one of most exciting racing classes around. For MotoGP he cited the raft of talent in this year’s championship on ever-quicker machinery, and believes that it is certainly not just the so-called ‘top four’ that have a chance of winning. Lorenzo said that whilst there was pressure on him this year to retain his title, it was something he has gotten used to, whilst Pedrosa added he was looking to have an ever better season than last year. Márquez remained coy about his chances this season, saying that even though he is going well in the tests, a race is a completely different thing. Moto2 favourite Pol Espargaró, who goes into this season as favourite, was in a relaxed mood, though said the pressure to perform would no doubt hit him in Qatar, whilst in Moto3, Luis Salom was quick to point out that whilst he was quickest in the test, there was incredibly strong competition in the class. Paolo Vasile, CEO of Mediaset España, Manuel Villanueva, General Director Content of Mediaset España, and JJ Santos, Director Sport Area of Mediaset España, were on hand to explain the TV coverage they would provide for the year, and gave highlights of some exciting features they have produced to show throughout the season. The presenting team of Angel Nieto, Mela Chércoles, Melissa Jiménez and Nico Abad, with Dennis Noyes absent, interacted with riders about the upcoming year, and also spoke about what their expectations are for the 2013 season.
