KWS Motorsports Back in Action at the Roebling Road WERA National

The 2013 Racing season is back and in full swing. The KWS Motorsports, Millenium technologies GSXR1000’s of Luie Zendajas, Sean Dwyer and new to the team James Dellinger were at Roebling Road Raceway for the first round of the WERA National Challenge Series. After a long winter off, it did not take long to see great battles and fast racing with the start of the WERA Sportsman Races on Saturday. Luie Zendajas took his first two wins of the Season in the A SBK and F1 races while Sean Dywer took a third and second respectively. Sean earned a fourth place while Luie sat out the A SSTK to finish the day. James Dellinger struggled a bit to come up to his usual speed with new found power and suspension using Saturday’s Sportman races to to get used to his new ride.

The first WERA National on Sunday was the hotly contested Open Superstock National. With as many as five to six riders battling for the lead positions throughout the race. Luie took the checkered flag in fifth place with Sean taking sixth right on his rear wheel and James one more spot back in seventh.

The final race of the day as always was the WERA Superbike Race. Usually a 12 lap event at Roebling Road, it was shortened to an eight lap sprint after some long red flags in the earlier races. The close racing was even more intense as the times were faster and more riders battling for the lead. Sean was swapping for the lead as Luie was chasing down the leaders all the way to the flag. Sean was able to hang on to a fourth place finish with Luie tight on his heels to finish in fifth place. James rounded out his weekend in ninth position after watching the crazy battles happening just outside of his reach.

KWS support rider Jason Duplantis took his First Expert Podium in the B SBK Sportsman Race on Saturday and was running as high as fifth in his first expert WERA National before a mechanical ended his race.

Luie Zendejas – “I’m really happy with our performance this weekend. My KWS Motorsports, Millennium Technologies, Ridersdiscount.com, Knights Armaments Suzuki GSXR1000 was dialed in this weekend. We pretty much showed up and rode the bike without any changes. It was a stacked field and any of the five to six guys running up front could have taken the win. Constant position changes throughout all the races this weekend with lap times dropping every time we went out. I cant thank Mike Godin (my crew chief) enough for the long hour he has put into our program, our performance this weekend is a direct reflection of that hard work. My sponsors Ridersdiscount.com, Millennium Technologies, Dunlop, Oakley, Five ten. Special thanks goes out to the guys out at Knight’s Armaments for their support this year, Check them out at www.knightarmco.com.”

Sean Dwyer -“Another positive weekend fo the KWS team. Had some great battles and led alot of races. We came away with good points for a good start of the year.”

James Dellinger -“That was the toughest season opener I have ever raced. There were so many fast guys, I thought that I showed up to an AMA race”

Jason Duplantis -“We got off to a good start on Saturday with a sixth place in 600 SB. We mad a a few changes to tth bike for the 750 SB race. got a great start and was in 5th position going into turn one. Made a couple more passes in the next few corners, then put my head down to try and close the gap on the leaders. I finished 3rd to earn my first expert podium. Unfortunately Sunday did not go as well after a mechanical issue took us out of the race while running in fifth place in the 600 SB National. Overall it was still a great weekend. I would like to thank my sponsors KWS Motorsports, Millenium Technologies, Ballistic Performance, Team Velocity Powersports and Wide Op.

Team Eco-Fuel Saver/Scrubblade/Bartel’s Harley-Davidson’s Tyler O’Hara Wins Daytona Opener Daytona, FL –Team Eco-Fuel Saver/Scrubblade/Bartel’s Harley-Davidson’s Tyler O’Hara tops the field of 25 in a spectacular finish besting [the second-place finisher] by a slim .075 of a second. The third-place finisher was just .289 behind the lead riders, himself enveloped by competitors in what had to be one of the all-time closest finishes in professional AMA competition. O’Hara put it all together after a race-long duel consisting of the top 11 XR1200s that thundered across the finish line a mere .792 of a second apart after 7 laps of incredible back and forth competition. Tyler planned his race in advance figuring he had a shot at the win if he was somewhere in the top 5 or 6 riders exiting the chicane. “I told my dad that I could win from about fifth or sixth. It was like, ‘slingshot, engage.’ It’s all about putting yourself in the right place at the right time here. It feels really good to come out of here with a win!”

Daytona marked O’Hara’s sixth win in the class, making him the all-time leader in victories in the growing Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson series. He also led the most laps.

Josh Chisum, the team’s owner as well as manager and racer himself had a hard crash in the chicane during practice and did not compete in the final. “I’m super excited for Tyler, our team, and all of our sponsors! That’s why we’re here…to win races and hopefully grab this championship for all of our sponsors. Hopefully we can carry this momentum forward and grab some more wins. I like it this way!” said Chisum.

More, from a press release issued by Harv’s Harly-Davidson:

HARV’S HARLEY-DAVIDSON RACING SCORES THREE TOP TEN FINISHES AT DAYTONA

MACEDON, NEW YORK – MARCH 20, 2013 – After a long offseason in the cold North, Harv’s Harley-Davidson Racing was prepared for the 2013 Geico Motorcycle AMA Pro Racing season. Round 1 at Daytona International Speedway was a weekend of ups and downs. Scoring three top tens out of five races. Ultimately showing great potential for the rest of the year.

Travis Wyman, 21, topped the first Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport practice, being the fastest of the 61-rider field. Electronic issues daunted his qualifying position of ninth, while younger brother Cody, 19, notched his career best qualifying result of tenth. Travis also claimed his first career pole position in the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series, posting a time .176 seconds faster than second place.

The opening round for the Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series was a crapshoot right from the start. Almost immediately an eleven-rider freight train formed with riders dramatically shifting positions, some going from ninth to first in one lap. Often with as many as eight-riders abreast entering the tri-oval. Drafting was detrimental at Daytona, and Travis who led the race, slid back to take an eighth position.

SuperSport Race one was heartbreaking to Travis, as shifter problems brought his season-opener to an abrupt stop. It also showed Cody running third on lap two, although he slipped back to eighth, another career best finish. Race two held different outcomes for each Wyman brother, Travis had a great launch that sent him into the lead group. A furious drafting battle left Travis with a respective fifth place finish. Cody had issues while another rider made contact with his exhaust and sent him off the track. He did recover to take sixteenth.

“It was awesome to be in the lead group. Prior to Daytona, I’ve never even run in the top ten. I knew I could get a good start from the third row. Last year at Daytona I qualified 31st, compared to 10th in 2013. I made a few mistakes, out braking myself and lost a couple of positions.” Cody said, “On Saturday, midway through the race, a rider collided with my bike entering the bus loop. I managed to save it but my exhaust suffered some damage. I was happy to get 16th considering the loss of power for the second half of the race. It was the longest offseason I’ve ever experienced, and I can’t wait to get to Road America and compete in the lead group.” –Cody Wyman

“I was able to put it all together and put the Harv’s Harley-Davidson XR1200 on the pole at Datyona! We had the bikes and the pace to run up front, I was just out smarted in the draft at the end of each race. I am happy and confident with my team this year and am looking forward to Road America” -Travis Wyman
