The 2013 FIM MotoGP World Championship will be broadcast on SPEED TV, as in the past, but the 2013 FIM Superbike World Championship will be broadcast on a new cable sports network, beIN SPORT TV. “I can confirm that SPEED TV will broadcast MotoGP in 2013. The deal is done,” Ignacio Sagnier, Communications Manager for Dorna Sports, wrote in an e-mail to Roadracingworld.com this morning. “On the other hand beIN SPORT TV will be the broadcaster for SBK in 2013.” Dorna Sports was put in charge of the Superbike World Championship when Dorna Sports’ parent company Bridgepoint acquired Infront Sports & Media, the parent company of the Superbike World Championship, in 2012. Sagnier also put Roadracingworld.com in touch with the PR agency representing beIN SPORT TV in America, and a spokesman there also confirmed that the 2013 Superbike World Championship would be broadcast on the network in 2013. However, the season-opening event happening this weekend at Phillip Island, in Australia, may or may not be televised. The spokesman said he expected to know some time Wednesday if the races would be televised, but he did know that the races in Australia would definitely be streamed live free of charge on www.beinsport.tv. It’s important for fans to know that the live streaming video of the races from Phillip Island will not be archived on www.beinsport.tv. So anyone who wants to ensure they see the races need to be at their computer or mobile device at 8:00 p.m. Eastern/5:00 p.m. Pacific on Saturday, February 23 to catch World Superbike Race One. Race Two is scheduled to run 3.5 hours later. The beIN SPORT TV spokesman said he was not aware of the broadcast plans for the FIM Supersport World Championship, but he said he would inquire with the network and report back to Roadracingworld.com. The beIN SPORT TV network was launched in August of 2012. It is available on DirecTV, Dish Network and several cable providers, including Comcast and Time Warner. UPDATE: It’s been confirmed that the World Superbike races at Phillip Island will be televised live on beIN SPORT TV beginning at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time (not the 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time listed on the programming guide at www.beinsport.tv) Saturday, February 23. For those who do not have access to beIN SPORT TV, the races will also be shown via live streaming video on www.beinsport.tv. And contrary to what is stated in the FAQ (frequent asked questions) section on www.beinsport.com, network spokesmen have twice confirmed that no special login will be required to watch this coming weekend’s races via live streaming video.
