Bobby Fong, age 22, has signed a deal that will see him race for the newly-announced Richie Morris Racing (RMR)/Triple Crown Industries team in both the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike and Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson (formerly known as the XR1200) series in 2013. “Me and Richie [Morris] have actually been talking for a few years,” Fong told Roadracingworld.com Friday. “Him and Dave [Brite, Triple Crown Industries Team Owner] have a pretty good record, and they want to win. They’re going to do everything they can to win. It felt like a pretty good match. I seen that they had pretty good equipment but just not the best of riders in the past. So I thought it was a pretty good match. It seems like the funds are there. I’m excited to get out there on a good motorcycle and go for the Championship from the get-go.” Fong won an AMA Pro Daytona SportBike race at VIR in 2010 but sat out the entire 2011 season due partly to a lack of quality rides available in the series. The Stockton, California resident came back at the start of the 2012 season with Meen Motorsports on a Yamaha YZF-R6, and in spite of the team’s modest resources Fong was able to reach the podium three times, score seven top-five finishes and place eighth in the final 2012 Daytona SportBike Championship standings. “I’d just like to thank Meen Motorsports for helping me out,” said Fong. “They did a lot for me and the offer [to stay with them] was on the table, but this is a really good deal and I thought this would further my career.” Asked which brand of motorcycle he would be racing in Daytona SportBike, Fong said that had not been announced but he expected to begin testing before the end of November. I have been watching and talking to Bobby a few years now and I honestly feel he is one of the most naturally talented riders in the paddock. We feel confident that with the proper preparation he will be a championship contender next season.” Fong finished a strong 2012 season with multiple podium finishes while riding for Meen Motorsports. His career has consisted of top finishes in the Daytona Sport Bike Class capped off with a win at VIR in 2010. . “I’m very excited about the new team and looking forward to unloading at Daytona with the expectation of winning!” said Fong. “My concentration this off season will be training and testing. I’m thankful to Richie and Dave for believing in me and looking forward to working with my new crew!” “Richie and I have been discussing riders since September,” stated Dave Brite. “Each and every time Bobby’s name made the list. With his aggressive style and willingness to work within our team plan, eventually his name came out on top.” As for the Vance and Hines XR1200 Class, Fong will ride for Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson. “Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley- Davidson has been a long time supporter of motorcycle racing along with being a sponsor of RMR since 1994” says Shelly Rossmeyer Pepe. “We are very excited about the partnership of Richie (Morris) and Dave (Brite) and are as equally excited to have a rider the caliber of Bobby Fong join our team”.
