Bartel’s Harley-Davidson/Scrubblade’s Tyler O’Hara earned his fifth AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 pole position of the season with a time of 1:33.343 during Sunday morning’s final qualifying session at Homestead-Miami Speedway. KLR Group/Spyke’s Harley-Davidson’s Michael Barnes (1:33.913), Harv’s Harley-Davidson’s Travis Wyman (1:34.379) and MOB Racing’s Jake Holden (1:34.395) will also start today’s race from the front row. Barne’s teammate (and Travis Wyman’s older brother) Kyle Wyman, who is currently second in the XR Showdown/Championship points standings, will not race Sunday or for the remainder of the year. Kyle Wyman highsided during Saturday’s wet provisional qualifying session and was airlifted to a local hospital with a closed head injury and suspected ligament damage to his left wrist. “We started qualifying and it started raining a little bit, so everybody was in a hurry to get a time in before the track got too wet,” Kyle Wyman told Roadracingworld.com. “I was just trying to set a good pace. I ended up getting out on the paint in Turn Six, made a little bit of a mistake and highsided myself to the moon. I was airlifted. I lost a lot of my vision in my left eye, so they decided to get me there quicker to check me out.” Kyle Wyman was treated and released from the hospital late Saturday night, but even before he got the results of the CT scan on his head, the 22-year-old New Yorker decided to bring his season to an early end. “I’ve hit my head a few times in the past few weeks,” Kyle Wyman said. “At the Indy test I had a get-off and hit my head. At New Jersey, the last race, was a good one [crash]. And this was the worst one yet. I’m better off just watching for the rest of the year, supporting Barney and hopefully still getting a Championship for KLR Group. I’m really bummed because I’m having way too much fun riding these things, but I’m looking forward to getting healed up and coming back strong next year.” Triumph Big Kahuna Miami/GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series Homestead-Miami Speedway Homestead, Florida September 23, 2012 Provisional Combined Qualifying Results (all on Harley-Davidson XR1200s and Dunlop tires): 1.
