Sportbike Track Girl Announces All-Female Track Day, “Ladies First” Presented by Big #1 Motorsports October 1, 2012 Event to be held at Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham Alabama Holland, MI — Sportbike Track Girl will be hosting “Ladies First”, an all-female track day, Monday, October 1, 2012, at Barber Motorsports Park, Birmingham Alabama. Big #1 Motorsports will be the title sponsor of the event. Sportbike Track Girl is a women’s track day organization that focuses specifically on empowerment; through on-track instruction, education, access to women-specific gear and discounted products and services. Because women’s gear can be expensive and difficult to find, ST Girl offers free leathers rental for the day. “Ladies First is an amazing experience and we are pleased to host the event at one of the most prestigious tracks in the country, Barber Motorsports Park”, said Richard Harris, owner. Christi Midlam, Director, noted “We are thrilled to partner with Big #1 Motorsports of Birmingham this year. Big #1 Motorsports is Alabama’s Largest Yamaha/ Suzuki/ Canam /Polaris /Spyder/ SeaDoo Dealer and will bring significant value to our lady riders.” Kristen Reaves of Big #1 Motorsports said, “Big #1 is proud to be a sponsor for the “Ladies First” track event at Barber Motorsports Park. While sportbike riding has traditionally been known as a male dominated sport, we strive to bring quality riding to our customers and are eager to see more women participating in this sport since the road knows no gender.” The “Ladies First” days will follow a traditional track day format, with 3 groups and track sessions of 20 minutes. Riders will choose their group based on track experience and skill level. Riders that are new to the track or have limited track experience can participate in the Novice group. Novice group riders receive classroom and on-track instruction, including critiquing of track riding skills. Instructors will accompany riders on all track sessions throughout the day. Intermediate and advanced riders will have non-structured sessions, however with instructors available to help them improve their skills and the overall track experience. Tire and suspension services, photography and multiple vendors will be on site throughout the event. Riders will have the opportunity to win gift certificates, women-specific gear and other free prizes throughout the day. “Our intent is not to segregate, but rather to incorporate women into a male-dominated sport. By calming the fears of new riders and catering to their needs, we hope to significantly increase the confidence of the female rider. We ensure that she receives the moral, technical and mental foundation to succeed–however she defines “success”, said Christi Midlam, Director of Sportbike Track Girl. ST Girl programs such as “TAP” (track assistance program), enable women to do track days more easily, without having to rely on others to attend. ST Girl customers will have technical, mechanical and logistical assistance so that they can attend track days independently. “Ladies First” will be preceded by regular track days on Saturday and Sunday, open to all riders. The unique format of the event will enable Sportbike Track Time’s male customers ride a normal track weekend Saturday and Sunday and to peruse vendors, have suspension and tire service completed on Monday while the women ride.
