More, from a press release issued by KLR Group:

New KLR Group teammates, title contenders, pleased with Indy test INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 11) — KLR Group rider Kyle Wyman and new teammate Michael Barnes were all smiles after Saturday’s test session on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the site of next weekend’s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix.

Wyman saw more of the 2.62-mile, 16-turn circuit than any other rider, turning 32 circuits on two different Spyke’s Harley-Davidson XR1200s. His best time was a 1:56.595, good enough for second place on the final tally sheet.

“I had such a blast today riding in a no-pressure environment like this to get ready for the championship chase,” Wyman said. “Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a legendary place and I feel honored just to have the opportunity to ride here, let alone compete in front of the Moto GP crowd next weekend.

“Another cool thing is that the track is relative close to the Spyke’s dealership in Frankfort, Ind. — it’s only about 30 minutes away — so it’s a great event for everyone from there, along with their friends and family, to come and cheer us on in person. It’s awesome; I have a built-in fan base.”

In the first seven races of the year, Wyman won three events, which ties him with Tyler O’Hara for most in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series. Barnes, who was recently signed to Wyman’s KLR Group race team, won the only other race.

Following the last race in Ohio, the top 10 riders in the championship standings were all reset to 1,000 points. They will now battle for the 2012 title over the last five races, starting with a double-header next weekend in Indy. Wyman, Barnes and O’Hara are expected to be the top contenders.

“My first day on the job with my new KLR Group team was a lot of fun,” Barnes said. “Me and Kyle worked together throughout the day and it’s as if we’ve been teammates all year. No hitches at all. We’re ready to race.

“To start the showdown with a doubleheader in Indianapolis on GP weekend is really special. I feel very comfortable with both the bike and the entire team effort. Kyle runs a tight ship and I’m stoked to be on the KLR Group/Spyke’s Harley Davidson XR 1200 for the remainder of the season. Big thanks to everyone that has helped me make this year possible.”

Barnes was third quickest at the test with a best lap of 1:57.104. O’Hara was on top, carding a 1:55.914.

“Everyone is going to be ready for this five-race dash,” Wyman said. “I’m looking forward to having the next six days off so I can get back to training and get mentally prepared for what’s ahead. There’s a Planet Fitness right next to my hotel so it makes it easy for me to put the finishing touches on my fitness program and be in the best position possible for the championship run.”

The first race of next weekend’s double header will take place at 4:20 p.m., Saturday, followed by Race 2 at 3:30 p.m., Sunday. Both races will be shown on SPEED TV.
