Christie fastest in Superbike practice at Mont-Tremblant MONT-TREMBLANT, Que. (August 10, 2012) Keene, Ont.’s Jodi Christie set the pace on a wet opening day of the fourth round of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant on Friday. Christie took his Jodi Christie Racing / Accelerated Technologies Honda CBR1000RR around the 4.26km (2.65-mile), 15-turn track in one minute, 57.384 seconds for an average speed of 130.648km/h (81.272 mph). Rookie Samuel Proulx of Sherbrooke, Que. was second quickest on the Team Couturier Racing BMW S1000RR with a time of 1:57.415 and Warman, Sask.’s Bodhi Edie was third fastest for the day with a 1:57.495 aboard the Edie Racing / Blue Streak / Fast Company BMW S1000RR. This was Christie’s first outing this season on the CBR1000RR. Up to this weekend he has competed aboard the smaller capacity 600cc Honda CBR600RR in the Superbike class. “The handling was great and it was definitely comfortable to ride right off the bat,” said Christie, who was fastest in the morning practice session, when conditions were slightly more favourable. “I think we have a great base set-up.” Fourteen of the 19 Superbike entries turned laps in the morning session, but only eight ventured out in the afternoon practice, which was held in a steady rain. Francois Dumas of St-Raymond, Que. was fastest in the afternoon on the Team Dumas Superbike / Boulangeriedumas.com BMW S1000RR with a time of 1:57.827, which was good enough for fourth overall for the day. Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship points leader Jordan Szoke did not turn a lap on Friday aboard his Waznie Racing / Parts Canada / BMW Motorrad Canada BMW S1000RR. The Brantford, Ont. racer enters the weekend with a 35-point lead over Andrew Nelson in the standings, 151-116. Szoke has three Superbike victories at Mont-Tremblant to his credit. Nelson ran only in the morning session and recorded a lap at 1:57.906 on his Nelson Racing / Endras Motorrad / mcn.tv BMW S1000RR, good enough for fifth overall for the day. In other action on Friday, Kenny Riedmann of Belfountain, Ont. set the quickest time in practice for the K&N Performance Filters Pro Sport Bike class with a time of 2:01.118 on his Riedmann Racing / Sturgess Cycle Triumph 675. Points leader Christie was second fastest on his Honda CBR600RR at 2:01.599 and Kaladar, Ont.’s James Collins had the third fastest time of 2:05.864 riding the Acme Slate Yamaha YZF-R6. Toronto’s Michael Taylor led the way in practice for the Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada XR1200 Cup with a time of 2:02.162 for the Mackie Harley-Davidson team. Next quickest was Calgary’s John Ross MacRae of Ruthless Racing at 2:04.264 while his teammate, Darren James of Deep Cove, B.C. was third with a 2:07.364. Tim Robinson of Gatineau, Que. was fastest in practice for the Bazzaz Amateur Superbike class with a time of 1:55.834 on his Robinson Racing / Gym-Max BMW S1000RR. Series leader Philippe Masse of St-Hyacinthe, Que. set the quickest practice time for the Inside Motorcycles Amateur Sport Bike class with a time of 2:02.286 aboard the racingphil.com / Pete’s Superbike Kawasaki ZX-6R. Points leader Ryan Roche of Pickering, Ont. led Honda CBR250R National Race Series practice with a time of 2:25.695 on his Brooklin Cycle-backed entry. Action continues at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant on Saturday with qualifying for all six national classes, plus the first of two Honda CBR250R National Race Series rounds.
