Clashing Reschedule Date of Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with Official AMA Test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway Requires Team to Juggle After the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb was rescheduled for August 12th and the week leading up to that Sunday, Kuryakyn Racing for a Wish Team owner, Gerry Signorelli, realized he would have to perform a juggling act to maintain sponsorship commitments for the hill climb and the AMA XR1200 schedule. The XR1200’s AMA Pro Series has an official test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 11th. With the points chase starting at the Indy GP and “Sigs” and the team gaining on the lead pack, the Indy test is important to push for continued success. Signorelli sought a substitute rider to fill in for the team at Pikes Peak. After a flurry of inquiries, proposals, and applications from riders around the United States wanting to fill the spot, Signorelli and the team decided to give the position to an eager up-and-coming racer named Mike Henao. Mike approaches the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with a quiet confidence as a rookie. He used a test day this past Monday to throw a leg over the special “Pikes Peak Edition” AMA Spec Kuryakyn Racing for a Wish XR1200 and get used to the less-than-standard choice to race up a 14,000 foot mountain. He will use practices this week to learn the mountain as best he can. Practice time is extremely limited for this event, with competitors showing up at 3:45am each morning for the rest of this week for a chance to figure out where they are going. The race boasts over a hundred and thirty turns with plenty of dangerous drop-offs or lack of run-off. Henao will race up the mountain this week wearing a parachute. He understands the extreme dangers present and focus needed for the event, but chooses to approach it with some fun. Signorelli has flown back to Colorado for the next couple of days to take part in a VIP Charity Dinner at Pikes Peak Harley-Davidson. It will be hosted by local sponsors Pikes Peak Harley-Davidson, Sprinter of Littleton, and the Colvert/Harvey Group at UBS Financial. The dinner will aim to connect the community with motorcycle road racing and raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Colorado. On Friday, Gerry, Mike and the team will be interacting with fas at the Fan Fest Celebration in downtown Colorado Springs. The team will have the “Pikes Peak Edition” XR1200 on display along with Sprinter Vans. Mike Henao will be available for autographs and to answer questions. Signorelli will have to depart the event early to fly directly to Indianapolis late that night so that he can be on track for the AMA test in Indianapolis on Saturday morning. Gerry Signorelli – “This was a tough week to figure out. I’m excited to be speaking at the VIP Charity Dinner at Pikes Peak Harley-Davidson. We are also going to have a great display downtown in Colorado Springs on Friday. Sprinter of Littleton is bringing a couple of their trick Sprinter Vans. The Kuryakyn XR1200 will be on display as well and it looks rad with its Pikes Peak Edition graphics. Saturday should be packed too! I get to ride at Indianapolis Motor Speedway followed by a photo shoot over the yard of bricks with the NHRA Kuryakyn Drag bike and Chip Ellis. Back in Colorado, Mike will be resting on Saturday before the race Sunday morning. It is a seriously packed week, but we are pushing to help our sponsors and charity!” The team invites all fans to make it to the next round for the Indianapolis Grand Prix XR1200 Double Header on August 18th and 19th. Or tune in to SpeedTV or Speed2.com for race coverage of the entire 2012 XR1200 season. More information can be found at www.racingforawish.com or www.amaproracing.com. Racing for a Wish markets sponsors’ brands in the thrilling world of motorsports. The team is currently racing in the full AMA XR1200 Pro Series.
