Turpin Wins ROR-O, Swain Takes ROR-U at MRA Round 5

Warm weather and sunny skies greeted racers and fans to High Plains Raceway for the 5th round of the MRA season. MRA regulars were met by visiting racers as the grids formed up for 26 classes of racing over the span of two days at the 2.5 mile circuit.

High Plains Raceway blends the elements of 13 turns, 5 sections of elevation change and a long straightaway to provide challenge to every type of bike and rider. Chad Swain, one of the visiting racers, noticed. “What can I say, it was a great weekend. The first thing I noticed was family feel or the MRA. HPR is a beautiful track to compete at. Thanks to Eric at AIQ and Matt Spencer at SBS performance we were able to take a bike that arrived on Monday and be highly competitive with it by the end of the week. I’m extremely pleased with my finishes throughout the weekend, and especially proud of being able to bring home the win in ROR-U.”

The weekend was equally good for series regular Shannon Moham who, despite some mechanical issues with his Yamaha R6, was able to finish 6 races on the top step of the podium further securing his stranglehold on the Clubman Championship.

Two seasons ago the MRA began the SuperStreet program as a way of introducing interested riders to the sport of motorcycle road racing, without the full commitment or expense of preparing a full race effort. With minimal preparation and a low entry fee riders are exposed to the race environment through a classroom orientation, on-track instruction and their own race at the end of the program on Saturday. This round saw the largest turnout for the SuperStreet program to date with 39 riders signing up. Spectators lined the walls to watch as these riders left the start in three waves to complete their seven laps of competition bringing the Saturday raceday to a close.

ABATE of Colorado sponsored their famous post-race barbecue and, again, the bonds of friendship and competition brought people together in the enjoyment of each others company.

Kids 12 and under as well as military personal and public safety personnel are welcome to attend our events free of charge! 2 for 1 gate entry tickets are available at motorcycle shops all along the front range of Colorado.
