Nine e-bikes participated in last Sunday’s FIM championship race at the Mazda Raceway in Laguna Seca (California, USA). As an opener for the Moto GP the world famous e-bike teams Brammo, Lightning, Zero, Honda and MÃœNCH raced in front of more than 100.000 visitors. The only European team MUENCH Racing was very anxious to compete with the strong Americans. In Sunday’s final race MUENCH driver Matthias Himmelmann commenced from the fourth position and teammate Katja Poensgen began the race out of slot six. Whilst racing amazon and current leader of the FIM Championship individual rankings Katja Poensgen started with the slightly improved victory bike from Hungary, last year’s champion Matthias Himmelmann chose the team’s first machine with a new Wittenstein-engine and new battery. Unfortunately, the standings did not change during the course of the nine-lap race. The Championship’s rankings have changed accordingly: 1. 55 points Katja Poensgen 2. 38 points Matthias Himmelmann 3. 36 points Christian Amendt “žBoth of our drivers achieved respectable results,” said MUENCH Manager Thomas Petsch. “žThe starter’s field was excellent and the competition very strong.” Indeed it was. With drivers like Michael Barnes, Steve Atlas and Eric Bostrom, three of the most respected and well-known US-(e)-racing-drivers proved their skills and once again accomplished top results. Now, there will only be two more FIM races the teams get to participate in: Oschersleben (Germany) on August 12th and LeMans (France) on September 9th. All fans can be very anxious if for this year’s championship a woman will hold the FIM-overall championship crown for the first time in history. Nevertheless, the team has to focus on their next assignment for this upcoming weekend- achieving great results during the TTXGP race in Assen. Currently, the MUENCH Racing Team leads the overall European TTXGP Ranking as well.
