The Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha rider expertly raced himself to the front of the field and held onto the position with steely determination as the laps wound down, ultimately finishing the race with a comfortable lead as he took the checkered flag. Cameron, who has won three of the last four DSB races, said, “I knew I had the pace to win, and I was just trying to get out front. Once I got in the lead, I put together some fast laps, and I was able to pull away from the pack. It was a great day, and I can’t thank my entire Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha crew enough.” Cameron’s Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha teammate Tommy Hayden was also in the lead pack throughout the majority of the race and finished fifth. Tommy is currently in third place in the Daytona SportBike Championship points standings, and Cameron has now moved up to fourth place, despite missing some races earlier in the season due to injury. The Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha team will make the road trip back to California where they’ll return to action the weekend after next at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on July 27-29 for Round 9 of the AMA GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship. More, from a press release issued by LTD Racing: NASH REBOUNDS TO EQUAL CAREER-BEST DSB FINISH AT MID-OHIO Lexington, OH (July 15, 2012) — LTD Racing’s Huntley Nast equaled his best DSB result yet with seventh place in the second AMA Pro Daytona SportBike race from Mid-Ohio. Nash battled with others well inside the top ten in the 21-lap race, which was stopped once for a red flag, and turned his weekend around with a stellar result. The 20-year-old pushed hard on Sunday to rebound after his season took some hits following his excellent Road America round in June that set the high mark in his switch to the Daytona SportBike class. Nash began the weekend well on Friday but retired from Saturday’s race. Huntley focused to improve on his ninth place starting position and to run strong the entire 21 laps. Nash was under duress the entire event as other riders tried to pass him. “When you’re leading the train, you don’t know if the other riders are faster than you or not. If somebody makes a move and then you get back by, you can feel better about how it is going and you can find where you are stronger and where you need to work,” said Nash. “It was wearing me out for a while, but I was able to find the sectors where I wasn’t as good and I was able to put together a good race.” “It was a good race. My best lap and my last lap were 0.3 apart. I dusted my best time here by 0.8. I felt good,” Huntley said. “I raced with some quality guys and I could have tried a pass at the end for sixth but I decided to play it a little safe and not risk seventh after a couple of mishaps in the last couple of races for me and the team. I felt good on the bike again and had a lot of fun out there and I think we turned some things around with this one. Now it’s on to Laguna, one of my favorite tracks.” More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media on behalf of GEICO: Podium finish evades points leader Cardenas in second Mid-Ohio race LEXINGTON, Ohio (July 15) – GEICO Suzuki rider Martin Cardenas salvaged a fourth-place finish Sunday in the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike series during the Buckeye SuperBike weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Cardenas, who finished second in Saturday’s race at Mid-Ohio, led during the early stages of the 21-lap race, but just after halfway, the bike developed a chatter on some sections of the course, which put Cardenas into conservation mode. “It became very difficult to maintain the pace of the front guys,” Cardenas said. “I had to back off a little bit and concentrate on not getting passed by Tommy Hayden. I had to conserve the fourth place and that just proved to be the best I could do today.” Cardenas got a solid start and led the first laps before getting passed, settling into third and biding his time. The race was then red-flagged on Lap 5 due to rain and some safety equipment repairs. The GEICO Suzuki jumped back into the lead on the ensuing restart and Cardenas led until Lap 12 when the troubles began. The 29-year-old Colombian tried to keep pace with the lead pack, but the chatter became too difficult to overcome and Cardenas turned his attention to getting the best finish possible for maximum points. “A bad day for us has been fourth or fifth,” said Cardenas, who has won six times this year. “That’s really good in the bigger picture. This season we’ve been strong. The team is great and they’ve been working awesome with me since the start of the year.” Cardenas retains his series points lead, which shrinks to 40 points over Dane Westby. Cardenas said the team will turn its attention to getting back to the top of the podium at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, July 27-29, at Laguna Seca. “I like Laguna,” Cardenas said. “It’s a good track for me. I think we’ll get better results than we got here this weekend.”
