Richard Hamilton Haner, age 67, passed away today in Austin, Texas, after a long battle with cancer. Haner is the father of former AMA Pro Superbike and CMRA racer John Haner. Richard Haner often served as his son’s mechanic and was a popular figure at racetracks around the country. John Haner said one of his father’s last wishes was that in lieu of sending flowers to his funeral that people would donate to the Roadracing World Action Fund in his honor. “One of the last things he said was, ‘Airfence,'” John Haner said in a telephone call to Roadracingworld.com, “because he knew that stuff saved my life and he wants to protect our future. I just hope something good can come out of this.” Richard Haner is survived by his wife of 40 years Tracy Haner, son John Haner and daughter-in-law Annie Haner, daughter Amy Haner and son-in-law Andre Ashbaugh. John Haner said his family would greatly welcome cards, shared memories of Richard and messages of condolence at 8003 Springtime Lane, Houston, TX 77075 or via his Facebook page: ~https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=775890191~ Services are pending and details will be posted when they become available.
