Turpin takes Race of the Rockies Victory and Sets Track Record at Newly Paved Pueblo Motorsports Park
Hot weather and fresh pavement greeted MRA racers to Pueblo Motorsports Park this past weekend for Round 4 of the 2012 season. In addition to new pavement, turn 10 was reconfigured leading to new track records in every class over the course of the event!
Shane Turpin returned to the MRA for this round, following his wild card entry in the World Superbike Championship, setting an ultimate track record of 1:29.816 in the Open Superbike race on Sunday. The Premier Class in the MRA, Race of the Rockies GTO, was also won by Shane on the #14 Ducati. Dan Turner extended his lead in the Race of the Rockies Championship, putting in solid performances on his GSX-R1000.
Triple digit temperatures didn’t compare to the heat of the battles in the Novice and Amateur classes. In the Novice GTU race Matt Diehl extended his championship lead by taking his second win of the season. In GTO Matt reaffirmed his victory earlier in the day, taking the win and setting the new class record. The Amateur classes were equally exciting with Nik Lenski and David Mobley continuing to push each other to the limit! Ultimately, Zach Ritchey had his breakout performance of the season in the Amateur GTO class. Pulling onto the front straight the final time his excitement was obvious and he crossed the start finish line in the first position!
Shannon Moham continued his strong season performance bringing home 7 race wins including Race of the Rockies GTU. Shannon clearly spent some time during the break improving the SV650 that has been plagued by mechanical problems at the past two rounds. He rode that bike to victory in SuperTwins GTU, Lightweight GP and Lightweight Endurance!
Saturday evening came to a fitting end with a BBQ cook-off provided to racers, workers and spectators, free of charge, by MRA sponsor ABATE of Colorado. Bench racing, good food and good friends were the fare as people gathered to share their love of the sport.
