KWS Riders Claim 11 Podiums at Inaugural NOLA race!
Stop number four of the WERA National series was at the newly constructed NOLA Motorsports Park this past weekend. Rider’s Discount, KWS, Millennium Technologies riders Luie Zendejas and Sean Dwyer won every race entered amid soaring temperatures and having to learn this new track. Thursday morning started with already unbearable heat and track temperatures. The riders took to the track to dial in their Thermosman Suspension and work on getting their Dunlop tires to last on the extremely grippy but abrasive track, while also learning the learning the layout.
Saturday’s races started and ended with KWS riders leading every lap. Sean took the first win with Luie in third place the F1 Race with both riders consistently running in the 1:45s. The second race looked to be a repeat of the first race with the riders going even faster in the first few laps when Dwyer lost the front and Zendejas took the lead and finished atop the podium in the A Superbike sportsman race pushing their lap times into the 1:44s.
Sunday brought us the hottest temperatures of the weekend for the WERA National races. The A Superstock race started the day with Dwyer again taking the lead from the start with Zendejas on his tail the whole race. Zendejas was able to take advantage of the draft on the second lap to take his KWS GSXR-1000 to the fastest lap of the weekend of a 1:43.8, the only rider to get out of the 44s. The pair took the top two spots on the podium respectively. The WERA Superbike race looked to have an even faster pace, but the track temperatures were at their highest of the event. The Dunlop tires gave the duo excellent grip on the slick surface and again held the first and second spots throughout the 8-lap race to the podium.
KWS Support rider and employee Jason Duplantis on his Yamaha R6 took four second place finishes in as many starts at his debut WERA National weekend. Duplantis, originally from Louisiana, learned the new track while still getting accustomed to his newly built KWS R6 to take the second fastest amateur lap of the weekend.
Luie Zendejas – “I’m very happy with this weekend’s results. My KWS Motorsports, Riders Discount, Millennium Technologies, Dunlop tires, Suzuki GSX-R 1000’s were in top shape and showed it with the fastest time of the weekend! We have been running Thermosman’s settings all season long and it just gets better every race. This week I want to give a special thanks to Greg Combs from www.velosmart.com for the metabolic testing witch was instrumental in proper fueling and hydration in the tremendous heat we had to race in this weekend. Plus all my other sponsors Oakley, Storm Endurance, Motul, Andrew Swenson, Drippinwet, Vesrah brake pads.”
Sean Dwyer – “This was one of those perfect weekends where our KWS/Riders Discount Suzuki was setup really well just the way it came off the truck. T-man and Godin have done a superb job with our bikes and that allowed us to pay attention to learning the challenging track. The KWS horsepower put Luie and me up front right from the start and we were able to score valuable points with wins in both Open Superstock and WERA Superbike. I enjoyed the track layout, especially the faster corners and the hard braking into turn 1 was a blast. We used a mixture of UK and US made Dunlops, turning equally fast laps on both and we had amazing grip and durability. I want to give a huge thanks to KWS, Riders Discount, Millennium Technologies, Ballistic, Dunlop, Leo Vince Exhausts, Woodcraft, Motion Pro, Zero Gravity, Motul, T-man Suspension, Swenson Designs, Spyder Leather-works, VP Fuels, and Tax Defense Network.
Jason Duplantis – “Racing the WERA National at NOLAMotorsportsPark was extra special for me. I really wanted to put on a good show for my friends, family, and team here in my home state. We were able to finish second in each of the four races entered. My KWS prepared Yamaha R6 worked amazingly, and kept me in the hunt in all of my races. I would like to thank all of my sponsors and give a special thank you to Michael Godin for helping me go fast all weekend.”

More, from a press release issued by Alex Rata’s publicist:
Alex Rata and the Augusta Triumph Ducati team rolled into New Orleans last weekend for the first inaugural WERA motorcycle road races at NOLA Motorsports Park. With high expectations after a very sucessful weekend at Road Atlanta and Virginia International Raceway, crew chief Mike Moree began putting his magical touch and dialing in setup and gearing for a track they have never seen or raced before. With temperatures 100 degrees, tire management would be a priority. With the combination of Bridgestone tires and JRi Shocks suspension, they were able to run the entire weekend on a set and a half of tires. The 2012 Triumph 675R on VP fuel was extremely fast down the long front straight at NOLA. Alex would continually pickup his lap times as he got more and more seat time on the track. When race day came around Alex and the team were looking for a solid weekend of podiums, and they did not dissapoint. Alex participated in five races over the course of the weekend, and won all five events he entered. Bringing home first place wins in 600 superbike, 750 superbike, B superbike, Heavyweight twins superstock, and Heavyweight twins suprbike. Alex would like to thank Mike Moree, Vic Fasola, Augusa Triumph Ducati, Motorcycle Power House, Bridgestone tires, JRi Shocks and VP Fuels.
More, from a press release issued by Team Suzuki News Service:
Reigning German IDM Superbike Champion Martin Bauer joined the HPC Power Racing Suzuki Superbike team as a guest rider at the weekend’s IDM fourth round at the Red Bull Ring in Austria.
The 36 year old was tempted out of retirement as a replacement rider for injured Sascha Hommel, set eighth place in qualifying in his first-ever on the team’s GSX-R1000 Superbike; before racing to fourth in the opening race. Unfortunately his challenge for the podium dried-up in race two on the seventh lap of 18 when he was forced to pull out with a gearbox issue, and, because he was entered as a guest rider was not elegible to score points.
Said Bauer: “Many people have asked me why I took on this job in the HPC Power Suzuki Team and my answer is that it was a challenge for me. I came to the Red Bull Ring and sat on a motorbike that I wasn’t used to. Its set-up hadn’t yet been fine-tuned and it also had a brand of tyres that I wasn’t used to. I had to make a massive amount of effort, but I really enjoyed being able to further-develop the Suzuki GSX-R for Sascha. Before the second race, we made a few more adjustments: I rode very well and kept up with the leaders and held on to my reserves. I really think that a podium position would have been possible here, so was a real shame that I was forced to drop out with gearbox issues.”
HPC Power Racing Team Manager Ingo Härtel said: “Martin has proved that it’s possible to make it into the top three on a Suzuki. Drivers of his calibre and with his experience make sure that the motorbike is quickly fine-tuned for competition. Although Martin has not entered any races since the Hockenheim final last year, his performance is as formidably-strong as ever and he works in a very structured way. Without his contribution, we would never have made such rapid and substantial progress. In particular, he helped us to find the optimal overall set-up for the bike. Thanks to the clear pointers he gave, the chassis technician was able to implement his ideas very quickly. Despite this, we’re going to stick to our original team selection and we will be working with Sascha Hommel for three years.”
In IDM Supersport class, Team Suzuki Mayer riders Jesco Günther and Roman Stamm put the GSX-R600 on the podium with third place in race two from Günther as Team Suzuki Laux rider Sarah Heide – the only woman in the race – rode her GSX-R 600 into the points in the first race.
Said Günther: “At this event, we finally had great weather and we were able to improve the set-up of the Suzuki. For the first time, I felt completely at home on the bike.”
