Aaron Yates is making his return to professional motorcycle racing with a Wild Card entry in the MotoGP event scheduled for August 17-19 at Indy, riding a BCL Motorsports GP Tech GP212 CRT racebike. That’s the word from GP Tech’s Geoff Maloney. Yates was out of racing for more than two years after crashing his Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki GSX-R1000 and suffering a seriously broken lower right leg during an AMA Pro event at Auto Club Speedway in March of 2010. His recovery was set back when a plate inserted in the leg broke while he was walking months later. Yates had already set the fast time in the Sunday-morning Superbike warm-up session at the Fontana, California racetrack when he crashed immediately in front of another rider who could not avoid running over Yates’ leg. Yates rode a Suzuki GSX-R1000 in a WERA National Endurance Series race at Road Atlanta two weeks ago. The production-engined CRT-class racebike Yates will ride at Indy will be powered by a GSX-R1000 engine built by Mark Junge. More details will be posted as they become available.
