Jake Lewis currently enjoys a 15-point lead in the AMA Pro Road Racing SuperSport East point standings and wants to increase the gap with a double victory weekend. This weekend will provide 2 great opportunities for fans to get to spend extra time with the Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki riders. First up on Thursday evening is the AMA Pro Fan Party at nearby Billy’s Sports Grill. At the end of on-track activities on Friday, Cory, Joey, and Jake will be walking the track with fans giving insight on what it is like to race at Barber Motorsports Park. Breeann Poland Team Manager Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki “I love coming to Alabama and Barber Motorsports Park as it is one of the nicest stops on the AMA Pro Racing circuit. Our riders are ready to get back out on the track and show what our Dunlop-equipped Suzuki GSX-R600s can do!” Cory West Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki #57 “It’s always fun to come back to a place as nice as Barber Motorsports Park! I’ve had some good races and great memories from there in the past, so I’m looking forward to some strong results and some fun racing!” Joey Pascarella Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki #52 “This weekend I am very excited to go to a track that I really enjoy riding at and have had a good amount of track time in the past. The last two rounds were a little bit rough for me, but we have worked on some things testing and I feel like we are making progress.” Jake Lewis Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki #85 “I’m really looking forward to coming back east to Barber where my points series starts again after a long break. I have a lot of confidence heading into this weekend and I love this track and the whole atmosphere around it. I have a lot of friends and family coming to watch because it’s close to home so I hope I can get my first double victory weekend of the year on my Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki GSX-R600!” Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki would like to thank their sponsors for the 2012 season: Vesrah, Riders Discount, MCJ Motorsports, American Suzuki, Nielsen Enterprises Suzuki, Parts Unlimited, Penske Racing Shocks, Traxxion Dynamics Fork Components, Yoshimura, Catalyst Racing Composites, Shoei, Cortech, Sidi, Held, Motion Pro, Sudco Int., Bazzaz, Factory Pro, Maxima Racing Oils, Spiegler Brake Lines, Adjustable-levers, Vicci, Vortex, DID Chain, Zero Gravity, GPR Stabilizers, Trek Bicycles, Suzuka Tire Warmers, K&N Filters, Full Spectrum Batteries, Oakley (Jake), Roclun (Jake), Progressive Trail Design (Cory), Jon Block Group (Joey), 509 sunglasses (Cory and team), Andrew Swenson Designs and Drippinwet. More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media: AMA Pro tour’s most recent winner ready for more in Alabama BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Fresh off a convincing victory at Road America, KLR Group Harley-Davidson rider Kyle Wyman will be looking for his third AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series victory of the season Sunday during the Triumph SuperBike Classic at Barber Motorsports Park. “We’ve got our first win for KLR Group now,” said Wyman, whose title sponsor came on board after his season-opening victory at Daytona. “Now we want to keep the ball rolling and get in a routine of winning over the next couple races before we start the XR Showdown at Indianapolis. “The KLR Group/Spyke’s Harley Davidson crew is more pumped than ever, and I am more prepared than ever. It’s going to be a great weekend in Alabama.” Wyman is brimming with confidence because the 2.38-mile, 14-turn road course is one he knows quite will. “It’s another one of my favorite tracks,” Wyman said. “It’s where I had my first road race in 2008 and I’ve had really good results there in the past. I’ve probably got more time at Barber than any other track on the schedule.” The 11-lap main event will likely feature a different kind of strategy from the average XR1200 race. “It will bring a different type of racing to the XR1200 class because there are essentially no straightaways,” Wyman said. “There will be no drafting effects so bike setup will be key. I like our chances when it comes down to how we prepare our bikes, and we have a brand-new Harley going into the rotation so we’re ready to roll. “It’s gonna be hot also, mid-90 temperatures, so that will play a role as well. Rider stamina will play a huge role this weekend, and the workouts I’ve been turning in at Planet Fitness will really pay benefits.” Wyman sits second in the series standings, nine points behind leader Tyler O’Hara. Both riders have two wins on the season. Practice for the AMA Pro Vance and Hines XR1200 series gets under way at 10:30 a.m. CDT Saturday at Barber Motorsports Park. The first qualifying session will be at 4:15 p.m. Riders will have one more chance to make the field or improve their position during the final qualifier at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. The race rolls off at 12:30 p.m. More, from a press release issued by Zoom Motorsports/Barber Motorsports Park: Triumph Riders to Lead Parade Laps with Fans At AMA Pro Road Racing Event at Barber Birmingham, AL (June 20) Fans participating in the parade laps this weekend during the Triumph Superbike Classic presented by America’s First Federal Credit Union at Barber Motorsport Park will get a special treat. Triumph riders Jason DiSalvo, Dustin Dominguez and Richard Harris have agreed to lead the parade laps on both days. The parade laps are scheduled at the end of on-track activities Saturday and Sunday. Parade lapopportunities are still available and are $30. “This is just another example of the great opportunities a sponsor like Triumph can bring the fans,” said Rick Humphrey, Vice President ZOOM Motorsports, the exclusive promoter at the Barber Motorsports Park. “For the fans to have the opportunity to get on the track is one thing, but to have these riders join them is an added plus.” DiSalvo, the 2011 Daytona 200 winner, rides a Triumph in the GoPro Daytona SportBike class and is currently second in the standings. Dominguez and Harris ride Triumphs in the Motorcycle Superstore.com SuperSport class. The parade laps are designed to allow fans to take a lap around the picturesque 2.38-mile course at a “touring” pace. The Triumph Superbike Classic is the sixth race of the season for the AMA Pro Road Racing Series and will feature seven races over the weekend. Tickets for the Triumph Superbike Classic start at just $15 and can be purchased at www.barbermotorsports.com. Kids 15 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult. The Motorcycle Super Saver package is available until June 21st with access to three motorcycle events at Barber Motorsports Park in 2012, along with complimentary motorcycle parade laps during the Triumph Superbike Classic. While at Barber Motorsports Park, fans are encouraged to visit the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum, a 144,000 square foot home to the largest private collection of motorcycles, representing 20 countries and over 200 manufacturers. Tickets to the Museum are available for an additional fee and can be purchased at the door. More, from a press release issued by AMA Pro Racing: AMA Pro Road Racing Heads to Barber Motorsports Park for Triumph SuperBike Classic presented by America’s First Federal Credit Union BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 20, 2012) – AMA Pro Road Racing returns to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. this weekend, June 22-24, 2012, for the Triumph SuperBike Classic presented by America’s First Federal Credit Union. For the motorcycle and motorsports enthusiast, a trip to Barber is a must. With immaculate grounds and fan-friendly viewing areas complemented by giant art sculptures that are strategically placed throughout the facility, this is one of the most interesting tracks in the country to visit. This year will mark the 10th AMA Pro Road Racing event at the 2.38-mile natural road course. The nine-year history has seen 18 AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike races and eight different winners: Blake Young, Martin Cardenas, Tommy Hayden, Mat Mladin, Ben Spies, Miguel Duhamel, Kurtis Roberts and Aaron Yates. Suzuki has claimed 16 of the 18 victories; Honda has claimed the remaining two. With a strong showing at the last two rounds, Josh Hayes (Monster Energy Graves Yamaha) has strutted out to a 20-point advantage over closest rival Blake Young (Yoshimura Suzuki). Though the Gulfport, Miss. native has taken every available point since his uncharacteristic miscue in Race 2 at Sonoma Raceway earlier in the year, history and statistics are set against Yamaha’s leading man. Young is historically strong at Barber, earning one of his three career SuperBike poles in 2010 with a time of 1:25.554 and gathering up Race 2 wins in both the 2010 and 2011 seasons. Young is also the only active National Guard SuperBike rider with a win in the class here, as both Yamaha and two-time defending National Guard SuperBike Champion Hayes are still looking for a first SuperBike victory in Birmingham. Aside from Suzuki’s leading man, five other SuperBike riders have class victories here: Josh Herrin (2011 GoPro Daytona SportBike Race 2), Danny Eslick (2011 GoPro Daytona SportBike Race 1), Steve Rapp (2011 Vance & Hines XR1200 Series), Josh Hayes (2009 AMA Pro SuperSport) and Roger Hayden (2004 AMA Pro SuperSport). In last year’s contest, Martin Cardenas (GEICO Suzuki) earned a rare breakout National Guard SuperBike victory in his freshman season in the class on Saturday while Young pulled away to a 0.765-second win over Hayes on Sunday. For 2012, Cardenas has returned to the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike division, where he is currently dominating the championship with six wins in eight starts and a 47-point lead. Third in the National Guard SuperBike standings is Hayes’ teammate Josh Herrin (Monster Energy Graves Yamaha) with 151 tallies. In his first season in the class, Herrin has displayed awesome speed and made four trips to the podium. Behind Herrin is Roger Hayden (National Guard Jordan Suzuki) with 126 points. The Kentuckian is looking to turn his season around after a string of recent bad luck. Geoff May (Team Amsoil/Hero EBR) rounds out the top 5 on the only American-made SuperBike in the field, the EBR 1190RS. Although the Georgian is mathematically tied with Larry Pegram (Foremost Insurance Pegram BMW) at 123 points, May’s top finish of third in Race 2 at Sonoma gives him the edge for fifth position in the standings. Hayden’s Jordan Motorsports teammate Ben Bostrom (Jordan Suzuki), May’s EBR teammate Danny Eslick (Hero Moto Corp. EBR), Young’s teammate Chris Clark (Yoshimura Racing Suzuki) and Chris Fillmore (Team HMC KTM) round out the top ten. The Triumph SuperBike Classic presented by America’s First Federal Credit Union will take place this weekend, June 22-24. The AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike division will take to the track for the first practice session of the weekend on Friday, June 22 at 12:00 p.m. and will be featured in 21-lap races on Saturday, June 23 at 3:15 p.m. local time and Sunday, June 24 at 3:30 p.m. local time. SPEED will broadcast both race finals, with Race 1 scheduled to begin at 12:00 midnight ET/9:00 p.m. PT on Sunday night, followed by Race 2 mid-day on Monday at 12:00 noon ET/9:00 a.m. PT. AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Point Standings (After Round 5): 1. Josh Hayes (Gulfport, MS) – 257; 2. Blake Young (Waunakee, WI) – 237; 3. Josh Herrin (Glendale, CA) – 151; 4. Roger Hayden (Owensboro, KY) – 126; 5. Geoff May (Gainesville, GA) – 123; 6. Larry Pegram (Hebron, OH) – 123; 7. Ben Bostrom (Malibu, CA) – 111; 8. Danny Eslick (Broken Arrow, OK) – 107; 9. Chris Clark (Las Vegas, NV) – 107; 10. Chris Fillmore (Oxford, MI) – 101. AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Since 2009, Martin Cardenas (GEICO Suzuki) has clinched victory in five of six outings at Barber Motorsports Park, including all four AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike races during the 2009 and 2010 seasons and a surprising win during his debut AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike season in 2011. Following his return to GoPro Daytona SportBike this season, the Colombian has posted up on the top spot of the podium following six of the season’s eight finals and leads the championship 206-159 over nearest rival Jason DiSalvo (Latus Motors Racing Triumph) heading into this weekend’s Triumph SuperBike Classic presented by America’s First Federal Credit Union. Much of the points gap between DiSalvo and Cardenas is a result of the Alabama resident’s troubled runs at Road Atlanta earlier this season. Had DiSalvo earned the average of 26 points he has grabbed at each of the season’s other rounds, he would be leading Cardenas by 1 point in the championship chase heading to Birmingham. Instead, DiSalvo has a much steeper hill to climb and will likely have his hands full with the outright GoPro Daytona SportBike win leader — Cardenas has 22 to his credit — this weekend. Third in the points is the consistent, Suzuki-mounted Dane Westby (M4 Lucas Oil Suzuki) with 142 markers. Westby has visited the podium twice this season but is still looking to lock up a win. Lagging behind by just two points is 2010 National Guard SuperBike Race 1 winner Tommy Hayden (Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha), who was recently confirmed as the third rider in the Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha stable for the remainder of the 2012 season. Wrapping up the top five in the points is Jake Zemke (Ducshop Racing Ducati 848), whose three AMA Formula Xtreme wins here highlight his in-depth knowledge of the circuit. Positions six through 10 in the points are locked down by J.D. Beach (RoadRace Factory/ Red Bull Yamaha), DAYTONA® 200 winner Joey Pascarella (Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki), Bobby Fong (Meen Motorsports Yamaha), Cory West (Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki) and Cameron Beaubier (Y.E.S. Graves Yamaha). The AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike division will contest 21-lap race finals on Saturday, June 23 at 2:00 p.m. and Sunday, June 24 at 2:15 p.m. local time. SPEED will broadcast both race finals, with Race 1 scheduled to begin at 12:00 midnight ET/9:00 p.m. PT on Sunday night, followed by Race 2 mid-day on Monday at 12:00 noon ET/9:00 a.m. PT. AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Point Standings (After Round 5): 1. Martin Cardenas (Medellin, Colombia) – 206; 2. Jason DiSalvo (Batavia, NY) – 159; 3. Dane Westby (Tulsa, OK) – 142; 4. Tommy Hayden (Owensboro, KY) – 140; 5. Jake Zemke (Paso Robles, CA) – 124; 6. JD Beach (Philpot, KY) – 112; 7. Joey Pascarella (Vacaville, CA) – 111; 8. Bobby Fong (Stockton, CA) – 109; 9. Cory West (Eureka Springs, AR) – 97; 10. Cameron Beaubier (Roseville, CA) – 89. AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport Barber Motorsports Park marks the second dual-region AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race of the 2012 season. Both East and West Division racers will have the opportunity to put points up on the board in Birmingham following a three-round tour of West Division races. Despite the geographic separation, fans have seen East Coast riders battling for the steps of the podium all year long. East Division points-leader Jake Lewis (Riders Discount Vesrah Suzuki) has participated in every Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport round this season, taking four out-of-region podiums, including one win, in the last five starts. Lewis’ closest combatant has been West Division points leader James Rispoli (Celtic Racing/ Orient Express Racing Suzuki), who hopes to repeat last year’s Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport conquest and close out his SuperSport career with a second No. 1 plate. The New Yorker has topped the podium three times this season and is the only active Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport rider with a class win at Barber. Trailing Lewis 82-67 in the East Division point standings is Stefano Mesa (Kneedraggers.com Yamaha). Mesa took home his first AMA Pro victory in dramatic fashion just last round at Road America, the young Colombian showing the speed and conviction of a rider well beyond his 17 years. Just eight points back is Tomas Puerta (RoadRace Factory/Red Bull Yamaha), whose 2012 effort is bolstered by a podium finish in Race 2 at Sonoma Raceway. Triumph-mounted Dustin Dominguez (Latus Motors Racing Triumph) sits fourth in the East points with three in-region podiums to his credit in 2012 plus three out-of-region podiums, highlighted by one victory (Sonoma Raceway Race 1). Rounding out the Eastern Division top five is Corey Alexander (National Guard/ Fairhills Group/ Celtic Racing Suzuki). On the West Division side, Rispoli tops the charts, followed by Hayden Gillim (RoadRace Factory/Red Bull Yamaha) and Elena Myers (SuzukiScoopfans SportbikeTrackgear.com M4 Suzuki). Tyler Linders (Rotobox/ Nexx Yamaha) and Travis Ohge (Harv’s Harley-Davidson Suzuki) round out the top five Western Divisional standing positions. Saturday’s 17-lap final for the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport division will be the first race of the weekend, set to go green at 1:00 p.m., followed by Race 2 on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. local time. AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport East Division Point Standings (After Round 5): 1. Jake Lewis (Princeton, KY) – 82; 2. Stefano Mesa (Boca Raton, FL) – 67; 3. Tomas Puerta (Medellin, Colombia) – 59; 4. Dustin Dominguez (Newalla, OK) – 56; 5. Corey Alexander (Carmel, NY) – 53; 6. Travis Wyman (Macedon, NY) – 39; 7. Miles Thornton (West Point, GA) – 38; 8. Ryan Kerr (Johnstown, OH) – 37; 9. Jacob Morman (Loganville, GA) – 34; 10. Zach Herrin (Dublin, GA) – 29. AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport West Division Point Standings (After Round 5): 1. James Rispoli (Attica, NY) – 181; 2. Hayden Gillim (Owensboro, KY) – 155; 3. Elena Myers (Discovery Bay, CA) – 113; 4. Tyler Linders (Mission Viejo, CA) – 67; 5. Travis Ohge (Aurora, OR) – 67; 6. Ryan Matter (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) – 59; 7. Sebastiao Ferreira (Paravna, Brazil) – 59; 8. Devon McDonough (Damascus, OR) – 42; 9. Rocco Horvath (Chandler, AZ) – 36; 10. Colter Dimick (Ft. Collins, CO) – 34. AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series The AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series has seen the dominant trio of Tyler O’Hara (Bartel’s Harley-Davidson), Kyle Wyman (KLR Group/Vesrah Racing Harley-Davidson) and Michael Barnes (Bartel’s Harley-Davidson) lock up every podium position at each of the five rounds competed as part of the 2012 season. Although there are only six finishing order permutations that are possible between the three riders they have yet to repeat this season, indicating just how fierce the battle for position has been at each round. Heading to Barber, O’Hara tops the charts with 138 points, followed by Wyman with 129 and Barnes with 123. O’Hara and Wyman have taken home two wins apiece this season and Barnes captured his first AMA Pro victory since the 1996 season at the Sonoma Raceway round in May. Notable riders that have scratched at the podium door with fourth place finishes include Michael Corbino (XP Motorsports/ Rossiter’s Harley-Davidson), David Estok (Ruthless Racing/ Deeley Harley-Davidson), Travis Wyman (Harv’s Harley-Davidson) and Shane Narbonne (Suburban Motors Harley-Davidson). Corbino and Estok hold positions four and five in the standings, followed by Gerry Signorelli (Kuryakyn/ Racing for a Wish Harley-Davidson), Travis Wyman, Darren James (Ruthless Racing/ Deeley Harley-Davidson), Josh Chisum (Bartel’s Harley-Davidson) and Nicholas Hansen (Surburban Motors Harley-Davidson) in positions six through 10, respectively. The AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series riders take to the track for their 11-lap race final on Sunday, June 24 at 12:30 p.m. local time. AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series Point Standings (After Round 5): 1. Tyler O’Hara (Petaluma, CA) – 138; 2. Kyle Wyman (Macedon, NY) – 129; 3. Michael Barnes (Boca Raton, FL) – 123; 4. AMA Pro Racing is the premier professional motorcycle racing organization in North America, operating a full schedule of events and championships for a variety of motorcycle disciplines. Learn more about AMA Pro Racing at www.amaproracing.com. More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Bama Bound: Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams Heading Southeast To Barber Motorsports Park Cypress, CA June 20, 2012 After a couple of weeks off following back-to-back race weekends in Utah and Wisconsin, the Yamaha U.S. Road Racing Teams will be in action again this weekend where they’ll be at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. For a few of the teams’ riders, Barber is considered their home track, since the 2.38-mile, 14-turn road course in Birmingham is closest to where they reside. That means there will be lots of family, neighbors, and friends in attendance to root them on to victory. MONSTER ENERGY/GRAVES/YAMAHA: HAYES & HERRIN Coming off his double win at Road America earlier this month, two-time reigning AMA Pro National Guard SuperBike Champion Josh Hayes will be looking to build on the points lead that he currently has in this year’s title chase. Josh, who lives in Gulfport, Mississippi, not far from Birmingham, won the pole last year at Barber and is looking forward to returning to one of his favorite tracks on the AMA Pro Racing schedule. Josh Herrin, who is currently third in the SuperBike championship in his rookie season aboard the #2 R1, will also be racing not far from his home in Dublin, Georgia. Josh won at Barber last year in Daytona SportBike and climbed one of the track’s catch fences to celebrate his victory by tossing his gloves to the appreciative fans in attendance. He’s acclimated quickly to SuperBike, so look for him in the lead pack and contending for the wins at Barber. YAMAHA EXTENDED SERVICE/GRAVES/YAMAHA: HAYDEN, BEAUBIER & GERLOFF With his signature #22 once again emblazoned on his Yamaha YZF-R6, Tommy Hayden will feel even more at home in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike competition–and in more ways than one. Not only is Tommy back on the #22 R6 for the first time in more than a decade, but also, the Kentucky rider will be returning to what he considers his home track. The Barber circuit is not far from Tommy’s home in Owensboro, so the OWB is sure to be well represented by Tommy’s family and friends. Tommy is currently just two points out of third place in the hotly contested DSB Championship, and he is looking to notch his first win of the season at one of his favorite racetracks. Also looking to get his first win this year in DSB is Tommy’s Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha teammate Cameron Beaubier. Cameron got the holeshot in Saturday’s DSB Race 1 at Road America a couple of weeks ago and eventually finished a hard-fought second on his #6 R6. He’s been very much in contention for wins thus far this season, so look for him to be up front at Barber. Meanwhile, the third member of the Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha team, Garrett Gerloff, will also be in attendance and ready to greet fans, sign posters, and provide his full support of the team. Even though he’s still rehabbing from the broken leg that he suffered at Daytona earlier this season, Garrett has proven to be a complete team player as he’s attended every race this season, while continuing to work hard to get himself healthy and back on his #8 R6. WALK THE TRACK WITH YOUR FAVORITE YAMAHA RIDERS A favorite event at Barber Motorsports Park is the fan track walk, and Josh Hayes, Josh Herrin, and Tommy Hayden will all be on hand to walk the racecourse and share their insights and anecdotes with fans. It’s the best chance to get up-close and personal with Yamaha’s racing stars as they discuss what it’s like to race professionally and, specifically, on the Barber circuit. The fan track walk is scheduled for Friday evening, so don’t miss it. TUNE INTO SPEED TV There’s nothing like watching motorcycle road racing live and in person, but if you can’t make it to the track, be sure to watch all the action from Barber Motorsports Park on Speed TV. James Rispoli leads the West Championship by 26 points over his closest competitor. Corey Alexander remains in fifth place in the East Championship standings, only 6 points from third in a very competitive field. The next several races sees both riders return to tracks where they have seen success, and the entire team is looking forward to the second half of the season after such a great start. James Rispoli will ride the #1 Celtic Orient Express Racing Suzuki GSX-R 600 this weekend at Barber, and has been training heavily to prepare. James stated that “Going into Barber I feel really good, training is back to a high level again. The Florida heat has helped me get ready for the heat in ‘Bama. We had a winning bike at Road America so we hope to bring that here to Barber and just minimize mistakes on the race track. We won here last here and look to get two W’s this weekend and extend our points lead! Thanks to personal sponsors AGV, Dainese, Monster Energy, and Techmount for all their support. Please follow me on Twitter (@JamesRispoli) and Facebook for the latest updates!” Corey Alexander is excited to be back on the #5 National Guard Fairhills Group Suzuki GSX-R 600 for round six at Barber, at track he knows well from previous visits and that rewards his riding style. Corey stated enthusiastically “After a few more weeks off and coming off a good result at Road America I feel confident going into Barber. Every week my shoulder gets stronger so I’m excited to see what I can do with the great bike I know my National Guard Fairhills Group team will give me. Many thanks to Fairhills Group, Hudson Valley Motorcycle, Spidi Leathers, XPD Boots, and Arai Helmets for all their support. More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media on behalf of GEICO: Points leader Cardenas looking for more success at Barber Motorsports Park BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 20) GEICO Suzuki rider Martin Cardenas is facing a different kind of track at this weekend’s Triumph SuperBike Classic at Barber Motorsports Park, but is hoping for the same kind of results he’s enjoyed all season. Cardenas has won six of the eight AMA Pro Daytona SportBike races this year, including the last three in a row. He also won the 2011 SuperBike trophy at Barber, so he’s confident he knows the quick line around the 2.38-mile, 14-turn circuit. “It’s a track I enjoy and I’ve had good results there in the past,” Cardenas said. “I’m looking forward to another good result.” Cardenas has been winning in just about every way imaginable, from last-lap heroics to wire-to-wire domination. And he knows to continue his success at Barber, he’ll need to cook up another winning recipe as the track lacks a classic straightway where bikes tend to bunch up and use the draft. The 29-year-old Colombian said the key to victory this weekend will be to get out front early and get some distance between himself and the rest of the field. “It’s easier for a faster guy to break away from the group at this track,” Cardenas said. “We’ll have to see how our pace compares during practice and qualifying. “It’s important to qualify on the first row. You need to be at the front in order to be the one setting the pace, instead of trying to catch up.” As is the case for racing in the summer, the weather will always be a factor. “It’s going to be very hot there, of course,” Cardenas said. “But there’s also a strong chance for rain. We’ve seen rain there in the past, so the crew will have to be ready for either wet or dry conditions.” If Cardenas is able to keep his scorching pace aboard the GEICO Suzuki, he will be able to expand his AMA Pro Daytona SportBike lead, which has already grown to 47 points over second place Jason DiSalvo. Practice for the Daytona SportBike class gets under way at 1 p.m. CDT on Friday with the first qualifier expected to roll off at 3 p.m. Saturday will see second qualifier at 8:50 a.m. with the first race 21-lap race of the weekend starting at 2 p.m. On Sunday there will be another 21-lap event starting at 2:15 p.m. SPEED will air the weekend’s racing at midnight EDT on Monday.
