Watch the video by OnTheThrottle.TV. When Brian Sharp of Boulder Motor Sports had the opportunity to enter as a “wildcard” in the World Superbike race at Miller Motorsports Park, rider Shane Turpin was a natural choice for his team. Turpin, a Salt Lake City native, had been racing Ducati in various events with Boulder Motor Sports for the last three seasons, including winning the MRA championship in Colorado in 2011. Sharp opened Boulder Motor Sports in 2006 to specialize in Ducati service, performance, and parts. “We provide many different kinds of service, from basic oil changes and tires to engine builds for street bikes to World Superbikes,” Sharp explains. “What we are most known for is maximizing each and every customer’s Ducati to make it run as best as possible and to obtain the performance they expect from their machines.” Sharp’s passion for and experience with the Ducati brand is evident in the 16 years he’s spent in the shop and at the racetrack. “In 2007, not long after opening the business we obtained sponsorship and ventured out across America racing the AMA Formula Extreme championship with Marty Craggill on a Ducati 749R. We had great success that year and were fortunate to meet many great Ducati owners around the country who have entrusted the crew at Boulder Motor Sports to facilitate their Ducati needs. Along with the AMA, we began building many bikes for club racers and increased the amount of Ducati’s in our local MRA series substantially,” he says. Sharp continues, “by focusing on racing, it has allowed us to pass along many of the updates to our street bike clients to assist them with the upgrades and performance they are interested in. From engine upgrades to suspension setups, many of our street and track day clients have been assisted with the knowledge we gained on the racetrack.” When asked how the team prepared for the World Superbike Race, Sharp says, “The biggest thing is surrounding yourself with good people who have the same aspirations and goals and who are well versed on what it takes to race on the world stage. Naturally having well prepared machines is an important part of the puzzle, without great equipment like the Ducati we raced, it only makes the task that much harder. Having a good rider who has track knowledge of all the circuits on the schedule is also an important part of the equation.” While racing at the World Superbike BigM Weekend the team’s biggest challenge was the weather. “We had rain, wind, cold sunny and warm, which was quite a mix over the course of the event. With the changing conditions it changed certain elements of our setup and electronics strategies,” Sharp explains. Despite the challenges, Sharp says the experience was definitely worth all the effort. “What a great experience it was and we appreciate the support from everyone. A big thanks to all of our sponsors, friends, family and to the entire WSBK officials who assisted us with making this event a success.” For more information about Boulder Motor Sports, visit www.bouldermotorsports.com.
