Frontline CSBK Inc. Toronto, Ontario, Canada Racers tune up at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park BOWMANVILLE, Ont. (June 11, 2012) With the start of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship less than two weeks away potential competitors in the Honda CBR250R National Race Series had a chance to get some track time at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Monday. An official licensing day on the 1.5km (0.9-mile) Development Track gave racers the opportunity to work on their race craft and get some valuable track time aboard Honda’s new CBR250R motorcycle. The Honda CBR250R National Race Series will be part of all five rounds of the Mopar Canadian Superbike Championship and act as an entry level series for up and coming road racers. One of those taking advantage of the instruction was Tomas Casas, a 13-year-old racer who plans to compete in the entire Honda CBR250R National Race Series. The Peterborough, Ont. rider finished third in last years RACE Super Series CBR125R regional championship at Shannonville Motorsport Park. “I like the bike,” said Casas, who only started road racing last year. “It’s much faster than the CBR125R but not too fast. I can lean it over more and I have to brake a little harder.” The Honda CBR250R National Race Series replaces the CBR125R Challenge as a starter class on the Canadian tour. The CBR125R Challenge launched the careers of current Canadian racing Pros Raphael Archambault, Jeremie Hade Precourt and 2011 Pro Rookie of the Year Bodhi Edie. “My Dad is helping me out and he really inspires me,” Casas added. “We want to go far in this sport together.” This was the last of a pair of licensing days for the Honda CBR250R National Race Series before the national season opens at Shannonville on June 22-24. The first was staged at Autodrome St-Eustache in St-Eustache, Que. on June 1, where Canadian racing legend Miguel Duhamel acted as a guest instructor. “I think everybody had a good time and these events helped with the awareness for the series,” said Kim Moore, Supervisor / Advertising & Press Relations with Honda Canada Inc. “Racing for young people can be scary, especially for their parents, and these licensing days provided a less intimidating atmosphere for everybody.” The 2012 season wraps up on the full road course at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on August 24-26. The Honda CBR250R National Race Series is open to riders aboard Hondas CBR250R motorcycle, with limited modifications permitted by national series organizer Frontline CSBK, Inc. Horsepower is restricted to 27 hp as measured on the official series Dynojet Dyno. Competitors in the Honda CBR250R National Race Series must be no older than 25 years old at the time of the first round of the series. Racers may be no younger than 15 years old, unless they have previously competed in a minimum of three officially sanctioned CBR125R races, in which case they can be as young as 13 years old. Official series suppliers are Pirelli, Akrapovic, Elka, Hotbodies Racing, Dynojet and Parts Canada.
