Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing Back On Top With The Overall Win In CMRA 4 Hour Big Bike Endurance At MotorSport Ranch
The Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association (CMRA) fifth round of Big Bike Endurance and Mini Sprint grids and fourth round of Mini Endurance, brought 10 hours of racing action to both the 1.7-mile and 1.3-mile short course MotorSport Ranch course this past Saturday, June 9, in Cresson, Texas. Temperatures in the 90’s, a light breeze, and partly cloudy skies made for favorable racing conditions, and Big Bike open practice ran on the 1.7-mile course while the Mini sprints and 4-Hour Mini Endurance ran simultaneously on the 1.3-mile short course. The CMRA has not utilized the short course for a race weekend since 2009, so many the mini racers got the experience of learning a new track while racing it.
The 4-Hour Mini Endurance had a combined grid of 23 teams, with the classes of Formula 4, Formula 5, Formula 6, and Formula 7 Endurance. The Davis Rod and Cycle team, consisting of Jesse Davis, Ryan Andrews, and Brandon Altmeyer, riding a Honda CBR250R, took an early lead, setting the fastest lap of the race, running a 1:10.432. They would go on to take both the win in Formula 4 and the overall endurance win. The 995 Paintworks team; William Renville, Jay Newton, and Austin Gore on a Kawasaki EX250 took second in both Formula 4 and the overall. Rounding out the top three overall was the Green Machine team of David Tiede, Ulug Bayramoglu, William Guthrie with a Kawasaki EX250, who also took third in Formula 4.
The 4-Hour Big Bike Endurance had a combined grid of 23 teams, with classes A Superbike, C Superbike, Fastline Motorcycle School Formula 2, and Modern Classic Endurance. The NORDCO Racing team of Todd Larson, Brandon Young, Michael Rochester on a Yamaha YZF-R1 took the early lead holding off the points leader teams of Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing and Village Idiots. A red flag was brought out at around the 11 minute mark in the race due to a timing loop malfunction which required on the spot repairs. After the restart, the Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing team of Ty Howard, Ryan Andrews, Shea Fouchek, Bryan West, and Jeremy Louder, kept the pressure on, setting the fastest lap of the race: 1:17.40 , and taking over the race lead. The Village Idiots team; John Orchard, Chris Headley, Blake Cochran, Brandon Cleland on a Yamaha YZF-R6, were in hot pursuit of the KTM RC8, and NORDCO Racing wasn’t giving up either. As the afternoon progressed, the weather got hotter and the wind picked up. Despite that, the lap times remained fast, and when the checkers dropped at 6:30 pm, Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing would take the win in A Superbike and the overall win, Village Idiots would take the win in C Superbike and second overall. NORDCO Racing would take second in A Superbike and third overall.
Ty Howard of Team SCRaceCenter.com KTM Racing had this to say, “We weren’t sure about tire wear at this particular track, so we set a lower pace at the beginning. After the red flag, Ryan Andrews got on the bike, set the fast lap of the race, and ran for 40 minutes at 1:18’s. The tires looked fine, so we ran 1:18’s the rest of the race, Shea for 1 hour 10 minutes, and Jeremy finished up the last leg of 40 minutes. The Bridgestones really lasted well; we did the whole race with only one rear tire change. We averaged 8 seconds on the tire change, and I’m more than pleased with the results. I’d like to thank P1 Suspension, Dyno Jet, Bridgestone, VP, Pilot, Motul, 212Decals.com, KTM North America, and my pit crew: Brandon and John. I also want to mention KTM and Red Bull partnered up for the Kini collection of clothing to support research work for the Wings of Life foundation. A percentage of the proceeds goes towards the foundation. Any KTM dealer carries the gear, or you can go to this website to purchase: www.ktm-versand.de “
