Title contender Wyman adds crewman, new bike to arsenal ROCHESTER, N.Y. (June 7) — Fresh off a big victory Sunday in AMA Pro Road Racing action at Road America, professional rider Kyle Wyman has announced the hiring of technical consultant Rick Bretl and the addition of a brand-new motorcycle to his championship-contending KLR Group/Spyke’s Harley-Davidson race team. Wyman’s win in Wisconsin brought him to within nine points of championship leader Tyler O’Hara in the AMA Pro Vance & Hines XR1200 Series. Like O’Hara, Wyman has won two of the first five races this season, and has not finished off the podium in any event. He’s also started from the pole twice. “We’re having a dream season and now our team is getting even stronger,” the 22-year-old Wyman said. “We want to win the title. That’s our goal. We’ve been running great but there have been moments where I think we all know we could have been a little better. When you’re racing guys like Tyler and Barney (third-place runner Michael Barnes), you don’t have much wiggle room.” Bretl will offer expert quality control to the team, which features Wyman’s father and crew chief Bob Wyman, his uncle Bill Wyman and Paul Diener of Spyke’s Harley-Davidson, a dealership in the Northwest suburbs of Indianapolis. Currently, the team fields three XR1200s — the two used by Wyman and a rental bike most recently piloted by Joe Rozynski. The group competes out of the Vesrah race team compound. “There’s a lot going on with the three bikes and on race weekends I’ve found myself thinking a lot more about the bikes than what I need to be doing as a rider to go faster,” Wyman said. “As the championship chase heats up, I’m going to need 100-percent focus on what I need to do on the bike to win races. “I worked with Rick in 2010 and he’s a guy as passionate about winning as the rest of us are. My dad, uncle and Paul thought he’d be a great addition to the team and fortunately he was available. Gaston Kearby with our title sponsors, GK Motorsports and the KLR Group, didn’t hesitate when we called to see if he would support this hire and we couldn’t be more appreciative of Gaston and what he continues to do for us. There is no doubt I have the best sponsor in the sport.” Kearby also purchased a brand-new XR1200 from Spyke’s Harley-Davidson to add to the team’s arsenal. The new bike will be available at the next race on the AMA Pro Road Racing schedule, the Triumph SuperBike Classic, which runs June 22-24 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. “We’ve got seven races left and we’re going to do everything we can to earn the pole and win as many of those as we can,” Wyman said. “We have all the people in place, we have all the bikes and parts we need and I’ve been working out every day at Planet Fitness to make sure I’m as fit as possible. This great year is only going to get better.”
