Paul Allison, 17 More, from a press release issued by LTD Racing: NASH ON THE GAS: SEVENTH FOR HUNTLEY AND LTD RACING IN ROAD AMERICA Elkhart Lake, WI (June 3, 2012) Huntley Nash continued to show progress as the young motorcycle racer had a fantastic weekend in Wisconsin, earning tenth on Saturday after running as high as third and then backing that race up with the closest he’s finished to the front since joining the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike class last year. Nash was seventh in an exciting race that, at one stage, featured nine riders fighting for the victory. After injuries limited his competitiveness last season, the multi-time AMA Pro SuperSport race winner began 2012 determined to fight at the front of AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Nationals. Daytona and Road Atlanta went well, but Nash struggled at Infineon Raceway and in Utah. Nash qualified eighth for the races and, on Sunday, he was determined to finish inside the top ten and run near the front as long as possible. “It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot running with the lead pack for pretty much the whole race for the first time. I’ve never actually been in the lead pack for that long. If we had another day, I think I could have raced with those dudes a bit more,” said Nash. “I didn’t want to mess up ‘the train,’ at all, so I settled in and learned. One thing that stood out to me was how consistent my lap times were. The front tire got chewed pretty good at the end, but I was happy with how it went. The lap times came together for me, and I found out what I needed to work on and where I had advantages, but I definitely think I can run at the front at Barber.” Nash and LTD Racing will compete next at Barber Motorsports Park June 22-24. More, from a press release issued by Geiger Media on behalf of GEICO: Cardenas sweeps Subway SuperBike Doubleheader at Road America ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 3) — GEICO Suzuki superstar Martin Cardenas continued his dominance of the GoPro Daytona SportBike class with his second victory of the weekend Sunday at the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader at Road America. Cardenas has now won six of eight races this season and leads the championship chase by 47 points over Jason DiSalvo, who finished second. “Today was another great race,” Cardenas said. “I had a much better start than yesterday and was able to gain the No. 1 position by the second lap. I just tried to push and get into a good rhythm and see if anyone else would come with me. It turned out a rather large group came along so we had quite a race.” Cardenas led by less than a second for nine laps before Cameron Beaubier was able to get past him with three to go. Cardenas regained the top spot a few corners later and the race to the finish was on from there. “As close as everyone was the last few laps I knew I needed to be perfect,” Cardenas said. “Cameron was very close, I could hear his bike, and I took a few looks back to see where the others were. I knew any mistake would be trouble so I concentrated very hard on hitting my spots.” Beaubier made one last attempt to pass Cardenas in the final turn but overran the apex, went off the racing surface, and tumbled to the ground, giving Cardenas the cushion he needed to win. Beaubier’s accident allowed DiSalvo to jump up to second, with J.D. Beach filing out the podium. Beaubier, the only other rider to lead laps in this race (he led two), ended up 20th. “I suppose Cameron was very close around the last turn but I raced the same line I had raced all day,” Cardenas said. “I didn’t know he wrecked until later. I think I would have had the bike to win either way. I was prepared for any move he was going to make and I stayed very aggressive in the braking zones to maintain my position. “I had my fastest lap the final time around because I knew they were right on my tail. The GEICO Suzuki was very fast all weekend and the team has done everything they can to give me the best bike. The whole team has improved and the new Suzuki is good for me. With everyone getting along the pieces are all there to win.” The tour takes two weekend’s off before the Triumph SuperBike Classic, which runs June 22-24 at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha Rider Hayden Finishes Fourth In Daytona SportBike Race 2 At Road America; Teammate Beaubier Tips Over Unhurt And Out Of Second Place On Final Lap Elkhart Lake, WI June 3, 2012 Both of the Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha riders were in the front group throughout almost the entirety of today’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Race 2 at Road America. Cameron Beaubier had his #6 Yamaha YZF-R6 in the top two as the laps wound down towards the end of the final lap and, with the checkered flag very nearly in sight, he lost rear grip momentarily, which carried him off track and into the grass where he was unable to save the bike from a mild tipover. Unhurt, Cameron valiantly righted his R6, climbed back aboard, and finished the race, albeit in 20th place. Meanwhile, Cameron’s Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha teammate Tommy Hayden kept his #8 R6 in the lead pack throughout the race. He made a deft pass for fifth, and then, after Cameron fell down, Tommy moved up a spot to cross the finish line in fourth place. Tommy is now just two points out of third place in the Daytona SportBike Championship. The Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha team will be back in action on June 22-24 for Round 6 of the AMA GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, AL. More, from a press release issued by Team Hammer: ANOTHER CHARGE FOR WESTBY AT ROAD AMERICA M4 Suzuki’s Dane Westby made another charge up the order to finish the AMA Pro Road Racing weekend at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin with a sixth-place in Sunday’s Daytona SportBike race. That was enough for Westby to retain third in the 2012 AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship standings with 142 points. Westby got a less-than-ideal start and was well outside the top 10 on the first of 13 laps. “The Wolverine” again sliced his way forward aboard his GSX-R600 racebike but couldn’t repeat Saturday’s podium challenge because he was too far back to catch the lead group at the high-speed circuit. “I got a bad start,” Westby admitted. “I was about five seconds back and ran the same times as the guys at the front but wasn’t able to win. It’s kind of sad because I thought we were good enough to win it, it’s just that I got another bad start. I was able to dispatch a few guys, though, and make some inroads.” Elena Myers ran her SuzukiScoopFans SportbikeTrackGear.com Suzuki GSX-R600 off the track to avoid hitting a sideways competitor on the first lap of the SuperSport race, then battled her way from 12th to seventh, finishing just a new 10ths out of sixth. Myers remains third in the West Region SuperSport point standings with 113. M4 Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich continued the day’s theme of losing and then gaining positions during the race. The Californian ran off the track and found himself back in 14th early in the day’s premier AMA Pro Superbike class final, but he finished the race in 12th, turning his fastest laps of the weekend and just missing out on 11th. The AMA Pro Road Racing series will next head to Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama on June 22-24. In 2012, Team Hammer, Inc. is competing in its 32nd consecutive racing season and marks its sixth year of offering technical and logistical support through its Contract Services Department. The team has earned 52 AMA Pro National race wins; 118 AMA Pro National podium finishes; 4 AMA Pro Championships; 133 Overall National Endurance race wins; 13 National Endurance Championships and assorted other race wins and titles.
