American racer Jake Holden will ride a BMW S1000RR for the Grillini Progea Team during this coming weekend’s FIM Superbike World Championship event at Miller Motorsports Park, in Tooele, Utah. “I got a call from my buddy Dario Marchetti, who I know from my friends at DucShop Racing,” Holden told Roadracingworld.com Wednesday morning. “He knows a lot of the guys on that team, and he asked me if I would be interested in riding a BMW in WSBK. I said, ‘Eh, yeah!’ “I’m really excited. This has been a dream of mine to ride at the World level and race with the biggest names in road racing. I’m privileged and happy.” Holden will take the place of Australian Mark Aitchison, who has parted ways with the team after scoring points in just two of nine races so far this season. But Holden doesn’t know if the ride this weekend will lead to something more with the team. “It’s just for this weekend, and we’ll see how it goes,” said the 29-year-old three-time AMA Pro race winner. “There’s a possibility I could finish out the season with them.” As for Holden’s current ride in the AMA Pro National Guard Superbike Championship on the BMW S1000RR of Evan Steel Performance, Holden said, “I talked to them about it. We were running low on budget and weren’t quite sure we were going to be able to do the whole season. So for this to come up it’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.”
