Billy McConnell (Smiths (Gloucester) Racing Triumph) 60 Report Mar-Train Yamaha’s Jack Kennedy maintained his lead in the overall standings after the third round of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag at Oulton Park after securing a win and a third place whilst Glen Richards scored his second win of the season. In the Sprint race Kennedy took his second victory of the season in a thrilling race, crossing the line just ahead of Ben Wilson who snatched second place from Sam Warren on a dramatic final lap. Warren had scrapped for supremacy for much of the race with Kennedy after the Mar-Train Yamaha rider led the opening laps but then Warren pushed his Seton Tuning Yamaha ahead before Kennedy snatched it back. In the Feature race Glen Richards won following a five-way scrap for supremacy that was shortened by a red flag. Gearlink Kawasaki’s Wilson took the lead off the line on the opening lap from Kennedy and Richards and at Island Bend the Australian was able to move ahead. Kennedy then took second place back before moving into the lead from Wilson by the end of the sixth lap. Richards then charged ahead and with Deane Brown crashing at Old Hall the race was red flagged and a result declared. The Australian moved to fourth in the overall standings whilst Kennedy remains as championship leader ahead of the next round at Snetterton. Kennedy said: “It was a great weekend all round. I qualified on pole and I think I posted the fastest ever Supersport lap around Oulton Park. I had a good battle with Sam Warren in the opening race so I was delighted to take the win. I was having another good battle in the second race and felt comfortable at the front, so to lose out with a red flag did make me feel as if I was robbed, but that’s the rules and I can’t complain. I’ve extended the championship lead so I can’t wait for Snetterton now.” For more information please visit www.britishsuperbike.com
