Tommy Aquino, 12 More, from a press release issued by Yamaha: Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha Rider Hayden Finishes Second In Daytona SportBike Race 2 At Infineon Raceway; Moves Up To Second In Championship Sonoma, CA May 6, 2012 With both of his Yamaha Extended Service/Graves/Yamaha teammates out of action due to injury, Tommy Hayden carried the flag for his team in Sunday’s AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Race 2 at Infineon Raceway. Tommy rode another solid race on his #8 Yamaha YZF-R6® and finished second, improving on his fifth-place result in yesterday’s Race 1 and making it three podium finishes in five tries in DSB competition. “I caught a break on a red flag and got off the line better on the re-start,” Tommy said. “My crew made some changes on my R6 overnight, and I was fast in the morning warm-up, so I knew I had a good setup for the race. I’m really happy that I was able to improve on my result from yesterday.” Based on today’s results, Tommy has moved up another position in the ever-important DSB Championship standings, and he’s now in second place for the season title. The Y.E.S./Graves/Yamaha team will travel to Tooele, UT, in three weeks for the next AMA Pro Racing round at Miller Motorsports Park on Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28. More, from a press release issued by Team Hammer: WESTBY RALLIES TO FINISH SEVENTH AFTER CRASH AT INFINEON RACEWAY M4 Suzuki’s Dane Westby salvaged a strong finish from what could have been a disastrous outing for the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike title contender on Sunday at Infineon Raceway. Westby’s race opened as planned, immediately jumping from his second-row starting position to a close fourth. However, the race was quickly red-flagged. The restart wasn’t quite as kind to the Oklahoman, who got away in sixth the second time around. It soon got worse. While in sixth and involved in a tight scrap for a podium positioning, Westby’s front wheel contacted another rider’s rear wheel entering Turn 11. Westby suffered a slow-speed fall as a result, and the field trailing behind flowed around him. “The Wolverine” picked his fallen GSX-R600 up off the tarmac and reentered the fray down in 14th position. Westby steadily picked his way back up the order, ultimately arriving in seventh position by the time he took the checkered flag. Thanks to his determined ride, Westby still ranks third in the 2012 Daytona SportBike title fight with 94 points. SuzukiScoopFans SportbikeTrackGear.com M4 Suzuki’s Elena Myers completed an AMA Pro SuperSport race on Sunday that was similar to her Saturday outing. Elena again quickly fought forward from her spot on the third row, surviving multiple starts in the twice-red-flagged race to work her way up as high as fifth. However, the Daytona winner again slowly faded down the order. Still recovering from recent wrist surgery, Myers found herself in a battle for 11th position on the final lap. Another rider dove up the inside on the brakes entering Turn 12, but Myers squared him off and accelerated ahead aboard her GSX-R600 to win the position by a scant 0.003 seconds. Team Venezuela’s Robertino Pietri picked up a top-ten result on his birthday in Sunday’s AMA Pro Superbike final. The former Moto2 pilot ran in 12th place early and worked his way forward to a ninth-place finish in the 22-lap final. M4 Suzuki’s Chris Ulrich finished the Superbike race in 13th aboard his GSX-R1000. “I’m not happy — I really believe a top ten was in the cards, and we didn’t do it,” Ulrich said. “We went in the wrong direction with the set-up and the bike was really hard to ride. The result is the result. “The positive is we made it through another weekend. We’re going to go home and regroup over the next couple weeks and then come back stronger at Miller.” Team Hammer will next compete on May 26-28 as the AMA Pro Road Racing series joins the Superbike World Championship at Miller Motorsports Park. More, from a press release issued by LTD Racing: NASH IMPROVES ON SUNDAY FOR LTD RACING AT INFINEON Infineon, CA (May 6, 2012) Huntley Nash earned 11th on Sunday in AMA Pro Daytona SportBike, improving four positions in race two of the weekend. Nash was able to improve his pace for the second 22-lap race of the weekend and was able to finish closer to his expectations of delivering a top-ten result to the team. Despite two red flags, Huntley was able to build some momentum in what was a tough weekend. Nash showed professionalism in setting goals in the race, and then he accomplished them. “I’m pretty happy. I did my fastest lap of the weekend at 1:41.3 and tried a new, harder tire, which I liked better. It gave me a better feeling, and I thought it was a lot better. My goal for the race was to be consistent with my lap times and do the best I could at a track I don’t really care for very much. I was trying to stay in the 1:42 range and get some training in for Miller. I thought 11th was a decent result, and I went faster here than I ever went before. Now, we got to two of my favorite tracks in Miller and Road America.” A mechanical issue ended David Gaviria’s race early after six laps. Huntley and David next race at Miller Motorsports Park 26-28.
