Noyes, Third in Navarra CEV Moto2, Closes Points Gap to 3 For the second race in a row, Kenny Noyes needed a last lap pass to take third place in the Spanish National Moto2 Championship. This time the American, who had huge high-sider in qualifying, found that his tire choice was the wrong one and had battle a sliding Suter over the final laps, just managing take third by .033 of a second with draft pass. While the tire was working, Noyes was running the same pace as the leaders. After round two reigning CEV Champion, Jordi Torres, who took his first win of the new season, leads second place finisher Alejandro Mariñamarena by two points and Noyes by only three. Opening round winner, Dani Rivas, crashed out of fifth with four laps to go, and drops to fourth on the points table. Now the team, led by crewchief George Vukmanovich, will have valuable time for testing and familiarization with the Suter machine that they ran for the first time just days before the opener in Jerez. Round three at Motorland, Aragon, is a month away. Kenny Noyes (3rd. 1:42.356): “That was tough! The weekend started well with a good pace in the dry on Friday but it rained in both qualifying sessions and I didn’t get enough heat in the tire at the start on the first session and, man, did I get some big air! My HJC helmet took care of me and the team did a great job getting me back out there just in time to save myself from a last row start. I managed to qualify fifth on the basis of a single flying lap and that was a good thing because conditions were much worse in the second qualifying session. I got an awful start in the race and then things got a lot worse when Syanrin ran into me and knocked me off the track. By the time I got back by Riva and Syanrin into fourth, the two leaders were gone but I managed to pull back two seconds on them and got by Ramos into third. Then the tire just went off, dropped off a cliff, and I was a sitting duck for Ramos, but when he did get back by on the last lap, I was able to stay with him, sliding all over the place, and I got just enough drive out of the last corner to come out of the draft and beat him by a wheel. If we knew the bike a little better and had had some dry time on Saturday we´d have run the hard rear tire that the other guys used. These first two races could have gone a lot worse for us. Now we have time to work. Nothing is easy in the CEV, but we got the bike and the team to win races and fight for the title.” Spanish Moto2 Championship Standings After 2 Rounds 1. Jordi Torres-Spain-Suter 35 pts 2. Alejandro Mariñemarena-Spain-Suter 33 pts 3. Kenny Noyes-USA-Suter 32 pts 4. Dani Rivas-Spain-Kalex 25 pts 5. Kris McLaren-Australia-FTR More, from a press release issued by BMW Team Motorrad: Xavi Forés leaves Navarre with a new podium for BMW and Team Motorrad. 22/4/2012 – The riders with lost lap are the strong point in Xavi Forés? race, who after firmly controlling most of the race, has been pushed into a second place. On the other hand Berto López leaves Navarre with no points due to a fall during the last lap. The masterly work carried out by Xavi Forés and Motorrad Competition this weekend has not been rewarded with the expected results because of factors beyond the valencian rider and his BMW S1000RR control. During the first laps Forés, who was starting from the pole position, has carried out a conservative strategy, taking care of his Michelin tires in every curve in order to guarantee they lasted in peak condition until the last laps. After waiting until his Michelin were in top shape, Forés has proceeded to attack to the leader of the race, Adrián Bonastre, who had nothing to do faced with the enthusiasm of Motorrad?s rider. Lap after lap, Forés has increased the difference with his pursuers. Unfortunately the interference in the race of some riders with no chance for a victory could not be predicted, and only four laps before the end, a large group of riders with a lost lap has brought about Forés losing the lead he had gained. Finally in the last lap Xavi has been pushed to a second position by Morales, what puts him in a second place in the provisional classification and confirms him as one of the favourites to win the Stock Extreme CEV. On the other hand Berto López, although protected by a wide number of fellows who moved to the circuit in Navarre to see his performance, could not offer them the race he wished. In spite of going among the best for all the weekend making the most of his BMW S1000RR, some last minute modifications required by him have finally reduced his confidence, preventing him from getting the pace he had during the training session. After a hard struggle to gain the greatest possible number of points, a nasty fall in the last lap put his scoreboard back to zero, having no reward after a hard working weekend. BMW and Team Motorrad get another podium in the CEV 2012 while Forés climbs up positions in the podium having an eye in Motorland for the victory, where he will be arrive in second position in the Spainish Championship Standings next May 27th. Cybernauts can enjoy the races again in MITELE.es and also in the retransmission which will be broadcasted in Mediaset Spain?s channel, Energy TV, who have accompanied for the first time live to the Spainish Championship. XAVI FORÉS #12 Campeonato de España de Stock Extreme It´s a pity because after a great job with Team Motorrad from the first test to this race, getting the pole and having the control of the race, we have had a lot of problems in the race with the lost lap rider´s. Definitely that has been the main of the race. I hope this will have solution for next races to improve the security and the team´s work couse we could have been first in standings for the third race of the Championship. Thanks to Michelin, BMW and my team Motorrad for the great effort and good job in this weekend, in Motorland race we will go for the victory. ALBERTO LOPEZ #42 Campeonato de España Stock Extreme “Has been a very difficult race, after a great weekend for me getting the pole in first qualifying and start in 4th position in starting grid finally. My fault has been to change the race tire in the last minute couse i was confident with my first decision and in race i didn´t feel so good with that. I have never make this kind of decisions in spite of my team told me not to do it and we have to think about the next race couse in the last lap we have lost some very important points, i want to forget this race. Thanks to all my fans have come here, Michelin, BMW and Team Motorrad for their support ” More, from a press release issued by FOGI Racing: FOGI Racing Leaves Navarra With Strong Top 10 Finish In Spanish Championship Tommy Aquino and FOGI Racing improving with each round in Spanish Championship Navarra, Spain FOGI Racing had a successful weekend in the Spanish Moto2 Championship. Despite challenging weather conditions in qualifying Tommy Aquino managed to pull out a top 10 finish at Circuito de Navarra in Sunday’s race held just outside Pamplona. Both Tommy and the team look forward to more testing before Round 3 at Aragon Motorland in a month’s time.” On race day, morning practice saw dry conditions for the first time all weekend, and while the track surface was still cold Aquino managed to get the bike sorted out quickly in preparation for the afternoon’s race.
