Over half a mile of soft barriers provided by the Roadracing World Action Fund has been deployed at Road Atlanta for this weekend’s Triumph Big Kahuna Atlanta. According to AMA Pro Racing Technical Director of Competition Al Ludington, 76 30-foot inflatable Airfence* units and 84 six-foot, non-inflatable “dog house” units have been deployed. The equates to 2784 linear feet of soft safety barriers, or more than half of a mile, a new record for Airfence deployment at an AMA Pro road race. An additional 1400 haybales have also been deployed, according to Ludington. The Roadracing World Action Fund (~http://actionfund.roadracingworld.com/~) is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization which advocates and promotes the use of soft barriers to help prevent rider injuries at racetracks. Since it was founded in 2001, the Roadracing World Action Fund has raised approximately $900,000 in donations used to deploy Airfence. *Trademark of Airfence Safety Systems Australia.
