FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: Here are two photos from the 1984 WERA GNF. A fast, young gunslinger named Kevin Schwantz. We had heard a little about him and knew he would be at the GNF. He didn’t dissappoint anyone and the rest is history. He’s riding the #43 Yamaha FJ600. Legendary Ducati tuner Reno Leoni, on the right, with the #26 Cagiva 500 GP bike that he prepared for the late Jimmy Adamo. Also, notice the tag on the van. In 1998, Mike Smith (standing upper left) crashed his factory Harley-Davidson VR1000 at the bridge turn. When the sliding bike hit the pit-lane asphalt, it ruptured the fuel tank and burned to a crisp. The late Fritz Kling, riding the #2 Dutchman Yamaha in the F-USA race around 1996.
