Young Rider Wins WMRRA’s Inaugural Peter Lenz Memorial 125GP Race (Kent, WA) – This past weekend [March 31-April 1] Washington Motorcycle Road Racing Association (WMRRA) had the season opening race event at Pacific Raceways, and with it came the first running of the Peter Lenz Memorial 125GP class. WMRRA has renamed the 125GP class in memory of young racer Peter Lenz. Peter passed away in August 2010 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the MotoGP race weekend. Peter was from nearby Vancouver, Washington. “Peter grew up racing in the Northwest. This was his home. He got his first championships here. He loved the scenery around Pacific Raceways, especially how his 125GP bike sounded running through the woods on the backside. We all miss him, and appreciate what WMRRA did in his honor by naming the class in his memory,” said Peter’s father Michael Lenz. “It was nice to hear John was representing the young riders and took the inaugural win.” Young rider John Gessner didn’t let the cold and wet event dampen his determination as he brought home the win over WMRRA club president Tim O’Mahony. “We wanted to honor the spirit and incredible rider that Peter was on and off the track. I can say with all sincerity that WMRRA is honored to be able to rename the class in Peter’s name,” commented O’Mahony. “It is fitting that a fellow young gun won the first Peter Lenz Memorial 125GP class race. Even more so that it was John, who knew and rode with Peter over the years.” More information about WMRRA, 125GP racing and the upcoming race season can be found at ~http://www.wmrra.com~
