THE UK’S LEADING CAR SUPERMARKET MOTORPOINT ANNOUNCE TITLE SPONSORSHIP OF BRITISH SUPERSPORT CHAMPIONSHIP The 2012 British Supersport Championship, which is the leading support race to the MCE British Superbike Championship, will be sponsored by the UK’s leading car supermarket, Motorpoint after a new partnership was agreed with series right-holder MotorSport Vision. Motorpoint offers customers unrivalled choice, value and service, with over 3,000 new and nearly new cars in stock across its five UK sites in Glasgow, Burnley, Derby, Peterborough and Newport, as well as on its website www.motorpoint.co.uk. The announcement of their title sponsor partnership is made ahead of the opening round of the season this Easter weekend (6-9 April) at Brands Hatch in Kent. David Shelton, Managing Director, Motorpoint said; “We have been involved with the MCE British Superbike Championship since 2009, so we are thrilled to continue our long-standing support as title sponsors of the British Supersport Championship, which offers a fantastic platform for the sport’s up and coming riders to launch their careers. “It’s a perfect fit for us given our own commitment to launch an apprenticeship programme in our own sites to develop the automotive industry’s young rising stars, as well as some of the races being in close proximity to our Glasgow, Derby and Peterborough sites. In addition, one of our core values is building a positive team and family spirit, and nowhere is this more evident than in British Superbikes!” The Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag, continues to produce some of the sport’s upcoming talent with five manufacturers vying for glory this season. In 2011 the championship was decided by just a single point following an intense battle between eventual champion Alastair Seeley and Ben Wilson. Gearlink Kawasaki’s Wilson returns this season with the aim of securing a maiden title, however he will face tough opposition from returning champion Glen Richards and previous title contenders including Billy McConnell, Paul Young and Jack Kennedy. This year will also see Taylor Mackenzie, son of multiple MCE BSB champion Niall, making his debut in the class with the Mar-Train Yamaha team. Motorpoint has been a long-term supporter of Taylor, which has been built upon further in 2012 as the official car supplier for Taylor. MCE British Superbike Championship Series Director Stuart Higgs said: “I’m delighted to welcome Motorpoint as a championship partner. With their recent Yamaha Superbike team association they had already crafted a strong identity with the series and I’m sure that this new partnership will elevate this even further.” All rounds of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag will be broadcast live on British Eurosport. The opening round of the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag takes place at Brands Hatch on Easter weekend (6-9 April). Datatag, the market leader in motorcycle security marking products, is using the association with Britain’s premier motorsport series to highlight the issue of theft in the UK, particularly amongst Supersport machines, and to promote its range of innovative and highly effective security marking products. Research undertaken by the Motorcycle Industry showed that a bike unprotected by Datatag technology was up to 5 times more likely to be stolen* and six times less likely to be recovered. The Datatag motorcycle identification system, now with stealth UV marking and genuine DNA identification technology has been in use in the UK since being launch in 1992 and is also the power behind the official agriculture and construction industry plant registration scheme, CESAR. Datatag Managing Director, Kevin Howells said “Given the ever present threat of theft to owners of motorcycles, sponsorship of the British Supersport Championship not only allows us the opportunity to raise awareness of the issue but also gives us a platform to highlight how Datatag’s new UV and DNA technology is an effective anti theft measure all riders can – and should – take to protect their machines.’ MCE British Superbike Championship Series Director Stuart Higgs said: “I’m delighted to welcome Datatag as a new championship partner. The theft of motorcycles is of huge concern to the industry and this new association as a championship level partner will increase the awareness of the issue and Datatag’s products to combat it, which in turn will ensure a welcome reduction in crime in this area.” The Motorpoint British Supersport Championship protected by Datatag continues to produce some of the sport’s upcoming talent with five manufacturers vying for glory this season.
