The second round of the Superbike World Championship and the first round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup will take place at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo and Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, over the weekend of March 30/31 1 April. It will be the second race of the season for David Salom and the first one for teammate Tati Mercado who missed the first Australian round due to injury. It’s the first race of the season also for the young French Superstock FIM Cup rider Jeremy Guarnoni while Bryan Staring already raced, in Phillip Island’s Superbike races as replacement for Mercado. The Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari is an auto and motorcycle racing circuit near the Italian town of Imola, 40 km east of Bologna and 80 km east of the Ferrari factory in Maranello. The circuit is named after Ferrari’s late founder Enzo and his son Dino who had died in the 1950s. Before Enzo Ferrari’s death in 1988 it was called ‘Autodromo Dino Ferrari. Unlike many circuits, Imola is actually run in an anti-clockwise direction. I tested at Aragon two weeks ago and my right wrist fracture has improved a great deal. I’m still feeling some pain but this will not prevent me from racing. I know the Imola circuit well and I like it. Is very technical and requires good bike balance. We didn’t have the best of luck in Australia and so I am very motivated to turn that around, perform well and have two solid races come Sunday”. Leandro “Tati” Mercado : “I like the Imola track and after my test in Aragon I can say I’m ready for my first Italian races of the year. I missed out on the Phillip Island races because of injury but now I’m really motivated and my physical condition is good. I did some extensive training to be ready for this round. I like Imola, also because there are many team Pedercini supporters and it is our home race. I will try to get as many points as possible”.
