Canada’s 32rd season of classic and vintage motorcycle road racing is back on track in June of 2012! The racers of the Vintage Road Racing Association (VRRA) will be competing at four rounds in 2012, starting with the Quinte TT at Shannonville Motorsport Park June 1-3. Racers aged from teens to 70’s will be on track with bikes even more wide-ranging in age, from the 1940s to 1980s, divided into age and displacement classes. Four events at different tracks (the two Shannonville rounds use different configurations) in Ontario and Quebec provide a challenge for all, both bikes and riders. The crown jewel in the series is the Mosport Vintage Festival, August 17-19, where there are typically several hundred entries, including many American competitors. This year the event will be particularly exciting, as new owners have made sweeping changes to the venerable track, including a new name ­ Canadian Tire Motorsport Park reflective of the ongoing financial commitment and support from ‘The Tire’ to the new owners of the half-century-old classic venue. Rounds at Shannonville (on different circuits) and at St-Eustache , Quebec near Montreal round out the VRRA racing season. St-Eustache has also had considerable upgrades over the past year, while Shannonville offers the best spectating and a motorcycle road racing history second to none. The VRRA is the only motorcycle association in Canada devoted solely to classic and vintage road racing, and is the oldest such organization in North America. Members range from casual racers out to preserve their classic machines to highly-competitive Pro racers who still like to exercise their competitive talents in a more relaxed atmosphere.
