New Head of Race Operations for the Superbike World Championship. BMW Motorrad Motorsport and Andrea Dosoli agree to join forces. Munich/Stephanskirchen, 1st January 2012. BMW Motorrad Motorsport has restructured its team management as it prepares for the 2012 season of the FIM Superbike World Championship. Andrea Dosoli (ITA) takes over at the head of the BMW Motorrad Motorsport race team with immediate effect. As Head of Race Operations, the 39-year-old will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the team. Dosoli’s role involves managing the race team at races and tests. At the same time, he will also act as an interface with the marketers and organisers of the Superbike World Championship, as well as forming a link to suppliers. As such, he takes over the duties of the previous Head of Race Operations, Rainer Bäumel (GER), who left the factory team at the end of the 2011 season to take over the management of a new vehicle project at BMW Motorrad. BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director Bernhard Gobmeier: “We are delighted to be able to welcome Andrea Dosoli on board. He has been involved in motorcycle racing for many years and boasts a wealth of experience as team manager. I am certain that Andrea is the ideal man to head our race team. With Andrea and our two works riders, Leon Haslam and Marco Melandri, we are well positioned for the coming season. We are looking forward to working together.” Andrea Dosoli: “I am really motivated to succeed in my new role at BMW Motorrad Motorsport. Recent years have shown that the team and the BMW S 1000 RR have a lot of potential. It is now a matter of tapping the full capability. I am really looking forward to doing my bit. Marco Melandri is an old acquaintance: we have already worked together in MotoGP and the Superbike World Championship in the past. Leon Haslam has also demonstrated just what he is capable of, and I am looking forward to working with him. I hope we will see both of them on the top step of the podium this year.” Dosoli entered the world of racing at the age of 25, as a mechanic in the 125cc World Championship. From 2001 to 2010 he held the role of Technical Manager and then Team Manager in MotoGP. In 2011 he switched to the FIM Superbike World Championship again as Team Manager.
