Sidecar outfits to join forces with leading BSB teams in 2012 With the recent news that the 2012 Eastern Airways British F1 Sidecar Championship will be held over 9 rounds, 8 at British Superbike Championship meetings, an exciting, new initiative will see the a number of three-wheel teams forge links with some of the leading Superbike squads, as the series gets set to enjoy a major presence in the season ahead. With the high profile series growing rapidly, both in popularity with live and TV audiences, several exciting new initiatives are already underway for the 2012 season, none more so than BSB teams now being offered the opportunity to have increased exposure in the form of advertising on a sidecar outfit. With teams and sponsors being given ‘added value’ at a BSB weekend, for comparatively little outlay, it promises to give extra spice to what is already a thrilling, and unique, Championship. All of the leading BSB teams have been approached with BMW the first factory to take up the offer whereby a Buildbase BMW LCR outfit will now participate in the full 2012 Championship. Bournemouth Kawasaki assisted a team in 2011 whilst talks are at an advanced stage with Philip Neill of TYCO Suzuki (who have already run John Holden and Andy Winkle in the Relentless by TAS Racing colours at the Isle of Man TT) and Shaun Muir of SMR. A number of others teams have also been approached and whilst the discussions are currently ongoing, the feedback thus far has been extremely positive. By re-establishing the link between the engine and component manufacturers and the flourishing Sidecar class, all parties are sure to benefit whilst the series will undoubtedly be restored to the heights of former years. In light of the aforementioned changes, series promoters and organisers, RKB-F1 Motorsport, led by Roger Body, have formed a new core organisational committee to cover all aspects of delivering the Championship. This will include technical and engineering regulations, overseen by ten-times World Champion Steve Webster MBE, press and PR, which will be coordinated by Barry Nutley, team liaison, paddock organisation and hospitality. A governing body has also been formed to administer all non-commercial issues, in addition to the day to day running of RKB-F1.
