AHRMA will be bringing their show to town for the 7th Annual Barber Festival this coming weekend at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama for what should be their biggest event of the year. Pre entries for the Premier 500 race include former World 500cc Grand Prix World Champion Kevin Schwantz, who will be racing the same Ken McKintosh prepared 500cc Norton Manx that he set a circuit record on at Pukekohe, New Zealand in 2009. Also entered are Isle of Man TT winner Dave Roper, former World Champion speedway rider Billy Hamill, European Classic Champion John Cronshaw, TT regular Maria Costello and multi time AHRMA Premier 500 Champion Pat Mooney, along with all the regular AHRMA contenders. Pat Mooney was quoted as saying ” This is a rare opportunity, and an honor, for us all to line up and race against Kevin Schwantz, a great hero of many a racer, we also have a large number of Kiwi racers coming up from New Zealand who will be fierce competitors too. The weather forecast for the weekend looks perfect for a great weekend of racing. I’ll also be racing the same Buell 1125R I raced in the Daytona 200 earlier this year in AHRMA’s Sound of Thunder and Battle of the Twins classes” The entry list for all classes includes racers from England, Italy, Holland, New Zealand, Australia and Canada, this truly has become a big international event. Last year’s event was a huge success with large crowds in attendance, and with this year’s pre ticket sales being up on last years, it should be an even bigger event. The organizers have a huge array of things for the race fans and enthusiasts to see and do, including the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum where you can see a very large array of machinery both old and new. There will also be the traditional Aeroshell Aerobatic Team air show that is always fun to watch. So come on out to Barber Motorsports Park this coming weekend for some fun with AHRMA’s eclectic mixture of both vintage and modern racebikes.
