Espargaro, 65 More, from a press release issued by JiR: GP of Japan, race: Alex De Angelis finishes 6th A hard-fought Moto2 race on the Motegi circuit today saw a total of six riders battle for the entire 23 laps to claim the podium. At the green light De Angelis was stuck in the front pack and ended the first lap in ninth, losing a couple of position due to some contact with other riders. From then the JiR Team rider made an aggressive race catching the leading pack with determination, thanks to a very fast pace around the 1’53/1’52-high mark, which on the 12th lap allowed him to set a lap time that was better than the time he registered in qualifying (1’52.749 vs 1’52.763). The race was very intense until the end, especially in the last lap that saw Alex De Angelis attempt to bring his MotoBI close to the podium. Eventually he finished in sixth at the end of a hard-racing Sunday that confirmed the Moto2 class DNA: spectacular races until the line. At the end, the race was won by the Italian Andrea Iannone, followed by Marc Marquez and Thomas Luthi. The second place means the Spaniard also overtakes Stefan Bradl (fourth today) in the Championship by just one point. In the World Championship Alex De Angelis reaches 132 points that are worth fourth place, the same position that the MotoBI occupies in the World Manufacturers’ Championship. Gianluca Montiron “In a race that we knew would have been so particular we are pretty satisfied, because having been so fast and consistent means having been able to put our rider in the best condition, thanks also to the TSR technical team that supported us with extreme professionalism thus giving us a top performing machine. Now we will investigate with them some issue to find out that element that we still miss to try to replicate that winning step we had last year at the end of the season. For sure the weight and shape of the rider are in part reasons for this gap, but further evolutions, like the new fairing has given us some improvements but not enough. Now we’re heading to two tracks where last Year Alex managed to perform well: First place in Phillip Island and second place in Sepang, therefore as usual we will give our best to end the Championship in the best way.” Alex DeAngelis “A very hard race, I enjoyed the recovery I made after I got stuck in the excitement of the first lap. I set the pace and I tried to be aggressive and my MotoBI gave me much confidence in turns, tyres didn’t have any loss of grip during the whole race thanks also to the good chassis, thus giving me the chance of staying with the fastest. We still lack in acceleration and finishing in sixth leaves a bitter taste in the mouth because while I can manage to recover I don’t have enough power to be aggressive when I’m ahead other competitors. Now the Japanese technicians will verify some data and we hope for some technical evolution from them to fill this gap.”
